3.58 unweighted and 4.05 weighted

What happened to explain the GPA? With a SAT score that high there must be an explanation. Many magnet students with the most rigorous of classes have 4.0 unweighted and 4.8 plus weighted

Assumption would be that they got massively tutored for the SATs.

His SAT is 1530 superscored, it's not high. TJ's average SAT is around 1510, so he is just an average student at a magnet like TJ. You are not comparing him to top students.

SAT superscore 1530.
Wants a Physics major / minor CS

Is it worth to take a chance and ED at UVA?

(or just EA at V Tech? Even that seems a reach these days)

Thanks

Virginia resident? Yes, apply ED. Tech can be the EA backup.

from our VA school that GPA is right around top 25% and with top rigor is good enough for UVA ED, not a huge reach, but does not always work out. Go for it, with VT EA as a backup.

SAT tutoring cannot buy a score that high, unlike class tutoring which can buy a GPA.

Probably motivation or a learning difference driving the gap.

What is a Big3??

Sidwell, STA/NCS and GDS.

Irrelevant data for a VA public school student.

Op here.

He took the SAT 3 times and did the Khan Academy at home, no classes.

Op again

The GPA is a result of the mix of As and Bs in his AP classes and the magnet school.
