Muriel Was Never Prepared

Anonymous
Its safe to say that she is both about as good as a Mayor as this city can ever manage, and absolutely not up for this moment.

Its why we'll ultimately need appointed mayors again.

They never were and the Mayor had enough of a runway to realize this. Muriel needs lawyers with the legal acumen of the current DC AG and his senior staff actually working FOR the Mayor.

I am really disappointed with this administration, its responses to this debacle and its hiring choices. Just such a mess. Constantly looking like a deer in headlights, stumbling over her words, contradicting herself - is anybody advising her?

The DC AG? Please say more about their acumen and what they are doing that is helping this mess.

I think he’s gone after 5 or 6 motorists with thousands in outstanding tickets, he got Uber Eats to disclose fees, and he’s getting juveniles who are arrested back into their communities as quickly as possible and interrupting the school to prison pipeline.

It is sexist and demeaning to refer to the female mayor of a major city by her first name. Address her with respect, by her last name, as you would if she was a man.

This was the exact sentiment I wanted to express.

They are the kind of sexiests who said the 2024 election was Trump vs Kamala and the 2016 election was Trump vs Hillary.

You’re mixing up the words “sexiest” and “sexists”.
Bowser employs some of the sexist men ever.
Bowser does not employ the sexiest men ever.

You’re right. Typo. I stand corrected.

Of course, she did send a letter a couple of days before January 6 that she did not want the National Guard called up.
She also said it on the Today show. Might have been a different morning show, but she said it.

because a trump controlled armed military on the streets of DC during a known planned coup attempt would have been a disaster for our country.

How could you not like Anthony Williams?

PP you replied to. They were all corrupt and incompetent. As is this one. But again, not worse than the others. I have given up hoping for an effective DC mayor. The entire city is apathetic to its problems. Maybe the current situation is what's needed to wake them up and put them in front of their responsibilities.

Please show a shred of evidence that former Mayor Williams was corrupt on any level. Fenty was part of the "green machine" but never had any allegations of criminality. The allegations against Vince Grey proved to be manufactured, he was not corrupt either. It was really just Marion Barry, and no one will dispute that.

Appointed by who? Trump? The current Congress? You must like the prospect of DC being under the thumb of someone like Stephen Miller.

I don't know whoever you all think you are arguing with but the reflexive sexism (i'm guessing racism is next) accusations are tiring and an example of why this team is not up to the task.

What's happening is SO much bigger than this petty back and forth. Rise above, have some freaking foresight and think of something beyond short term local politics.

This is, of course, a lie.

Not only is it not a lie, but also common knowledge:

It would be for the best. Anyone not beholden to Dem machine politics or Progressive purity spiraling could actually do things like putting criminals behind bars and recriminalize drugs.

All the right people would seethe as the city became more livable.

It wouldn't. They don't have our interests at heart. Allen, Nadieu and White may be irredeemable idiots to the core and have bad ideas but at least they care what happens to us.

You clearly know NOTHING about DC. Anthony Williams was neither incompetent or corrupt.

I have never been a fan of the Mayor. I never thought she had vision and I am extremely disappointed in how she is handling this mess. I also believe that she is insecure so she likes yes people around her who won't tell her the truth. With that said, I am really offended by some of these comments.

DC has had good Mayors. They have been mixed bags like in any city. Some good folks have run and lost. Anthony Williams was great, Fenty was ok, but did some great things. They both had vision. Bowser has never had any. Not even sure why she wanted to be Mayor. When she initially ran i thought it was a joke. She is 2 french fries short of a happy meal.

All of this. I wasn’t a big fan of Fenty because I thought he was dumb and did not like his brashness; that said, he did hire innovative people and he moved quickly. Muriel is in between mediocre and not that bright. She recycled some people who should have been sent out to pasture after Fenty left. She has also held on to some people that should just go, like the ones in her federal policy office, who for no reason other than inertia, seem to be passed down from Mayor to Mayor. Muriel needs people who are truly intellectuals, who are well read, have a firm grasp of federal and District law and who people respect. Having her sycophants running around telling people what to do when they don’t even understand how to do their jobs is criminally stupid and short sells her constituents in a way that is really hurting us know. The most impressive thing about your employees shouldn’t be their gaudy fashion sense and recent Botox and ‘nip/tuck’ adventures (and yes, this is a thing amongst her staff).
