Muriel Was Never Prepared

Anonymous
When Trump was elected, I posted that the Mayor needed to hire a more seasoned staff, in addition to hiring a Republican lobbying firm to help her navigate this administration. The amateurs she has at the helm, like Chief of Staff Lindsay Parker (smarter than Muriel but does not have gravitas or much of a personality), the Mayor’s Office of Legal Counsel (MOLC), which is full of inexperienced attorneys and led by a Deputy Director who often appears woefully intellectually inferior to the much more seasoned DC government attorneys, but who loves to hog the camera (see the disastrous Falcicchio press conferences), are not equipped to meet this moment. They never were and the Mayor had enough of a runway to realize this. Muriel needs lawyers with the legal acumen of the current DC AG and his senior staff actually working FOR the Mayor.

I am really disappointed with this administration, its responses to this debacle and its hiring choices. Just such a mess. Constantly looking like a deer in headlights, stumbling over her words, contradicting herself - is anybody advising her?

None of what you suggest would have made any difference whatsoever. The Trump Admin has a clear plan to numb Americans to military presence in cities in advance of 2028 election interference. It's laughable that you think Bowser would manage this with a Republican lobbying firm.

+1. It wouldn't matter if we had Jesus Christ himself as mayor. Any mayor would be a Democrat, and that's enough. I don't blame this on Bowser.

I have never liked any DC mayor, but the current one isn't worse than the others. She's in a lose-lose position vis-a-vis the White House, so not to blame for this particular mess.

Of course, she did send a letter a couple of days before January 6 that she did not want the National Guard called up.
She also said it on the Today show. Might have been a different morning show, but she said it.

I said, when Congress did their budget shenangians, that we should take the short term L on our terms and be focused on what was still to come. Be prepared. She wasn't and we weren't.

The problem is that we (as a city) have been reactive instead of proactive to things that were easily forseeable. She isn't bad. She's mid. A standard issue DC pol that did not rise to the occassion. She had the opportunity to be legendary but chose forgettable.

It could be worse though. Her response has been better than any member of the Council would have done. Can you imagine how bad it would be if Allen, Nadieu, White et al were Mayor? Even Mendhelson. Our local politicians are not good (which we all knew) and have been exposed. The sad fact is that Bowser is the best of our current bunch. Which says more about them than her.

This is, of course, a lie.

It is sexist and demeaning to refer to the female mayor of a major city by her first name. Address her with respect, by her last name, as you would if she was a man.

PP you replied to. They were all corrupt and incompetent. As is this one. But again, not worse than the others. I have given up hoping for an effective DC mayor. The entire city is apathetic to its problems. Maybe the current situation is what's needed to wake them up and put them in front of their responsibilities.

How long have you lived in Washington, DC? You sound uninformed about Anthony Williams.

Everything you have stated here is opinion. In this era it is pointless to comment on other's opinion because people now just express, not listening to learn or change. So I hope all this typing you just engaged in was personally therapeutic.

PP you replied to. He did a great job with DC's terrible financial distress, I'll give you that. But he closed the only public hospital inpatient services as part of those cost-saving measures. There is still a lack of robust healthcare services for the low and middle-income population of DC.

Was Harvard prepared? Were the Democrats prepared?

Truth is Mayor Bowser has done a great job handling this mess. We’re in a unique situation and she responded with great measure and intelligence.

The council is daft and White is a sniveling child.
