My sophomore got like a 1060 on the PSAT last year and I still expect them to go to a great college and have a wonderful life. My husband and I went to “fine” colleges yet we are securely UC so your kids will be completely fine I promise!

Mine isn’t even taking the SAT at all! Decided to pursue test optional only and it wasn’t going to be worth it with our student’s profile and college goals.

This was me last year. I had to wait the entire weekend and my kid finally told me, but I did not want to be *that mom.*

Ouch

Rude. Why does everyone try to act like their kid is brilliant and a disproportionate amount of posters have their kids in the 1% that scores perfect? The score is excellent. His score is higher than 95% of kids taking the test.

It's not 90's anymore. You and your UC husband should adjust expectation. Would be good for your DC.

Also, take a statistic class?

How incredibly rude. There are good colleges for everyone. Stop being a jerk. I used to be similarly snotty, honestly, but I have seen and worked with so many people who went to lower tier schools and many of them are very bright, doing great things. Just stop.

It's not rude, it's cold hard reality. In 90's we got Clinton, economy is booming for more than 20 years. You didn't do well because you are capable. You did well because it's the right time and you were really lucky to be at the right place.

What have we got today? What's your prediction for our economy in the next 10 years?

DP. I can confidently predict that my kid’s SAT score will have no bearing on what she’s doing in 10 years.

Same here. Lucky for them they have not so average grandparents. One of their grandpas died and left them 7 figure trusts. My husband and I along with the grandparents have always accepted them for who they are. Average goofballs.

My kid is a senior and took her August SAT for the (gasp) 5th time. 1530. Improved by 70 points since June. She struggles with ADHD. CollegeBoard denied her extended time accommodations. She ran out of time on verbal like she usually does, but must have made some lucky guesses this time. We did not do any professional prep. I pulled out all the hard questions from the blue book question bank and quizzed her periodically over the summer. Highly recommend.

We don’t care that your trust fund kid doesn’t care about the sat. Obviously different starting position in life. Congrats to your grandpa.

It seems your kid will inherit the family business.

That would be great in theory but I really doubt my son would be cooperative with that or open to learning from me. We're going to have to hire someone to deal wit it, whether it be a company or individual or college student who did well on the SAT.

No, but I personally hit it out of the park with my one and only SAT many years ago and my career has been a totally flop. Life can be so random and uncertain, and this one test is just a blip.

The grandpa was bright and left a trust fund. He probably cared about doing well. Wealth is usually squandered by the third generation.

I'm very stressed about this. I have always tested well, and found standardized tests like the SAT and LSAT to be fairly easy to do well on. My child is the exact opposite. I know I need to try to let this go, it is no different than the fact that my child is naturally athletic and I am not. However, I find it hard to accept that no matter what my child does, the SAT score will probably not be what either of us is hoping for.

she's going to take the SAT five times?

no the first 690 was psat, so sept will be fourth time.
all of her school friends are taking it 7-8 times, lets not pretend you don't know this

DP.

Is this really common? Most I’ve heard of is 3x.

Seriously effed up if true

Taking it more than 3 times isn’t super common, but it’s not rare, either. Live and let live. Your kid doesn’t have to take it more than 3 times if they don’t want to.

This is me, too. Spending time in this forum has actually helped me feel very calm about it now that my kid is a senior. I don’t really want her going to college with the stressed out, achievement obsessed kids of these neurotic posters.
