Guest player scam?

I would email the Exec Dir of the Club and explain your concerns (player development), and ask for an explanation, and assurances that it doesn't happen again. If it does, walk, and ask for a refund based on false promises

Wait til you get to ECNL playoffs and spend thousands of dollars to play against kids that are not playing n the correct age group.

Isn’t it possible that some kids are dual rostered for a first and second team? I’ve seen dual rostering at every club in the DMV area, so not sure how it’s a scam if they are the same age or younger. Now it may be unsportsmanlike

Some coaches and clubs are so sketchy. I have two boys two years apart that look really similar. The older one is really solid midfielder, is short and could easily pass as a kid two years younger.

I dropped off my younger son at a supposedly friendly scrimmage and my older one decided to stay just to practice juggling and to hang out. When I went back an hour later my older son was playing in the scrimmage. He is a nice kid so instead of scoring he was dribbling to get free and pull opponents toward him then making really nice passes to set up players to easily score. There was only one sub so I just thought someone got hurt.

A couple of weeks later when I texted that my younger son was sick and wasn't going to make the game his coach immediately called and asked if I could just send his older brother who could play instead and do the same thing he did in the scrimmage. Pass but don't score.

Obviously didn't do it but the coach kept asking in a sort of (sort of not ) joking way all season where the older brother was.

Gosh, it’s as if all the clubs care about is the enormous amount of money that can be made off of all the over-invested soccer parents. It’s a good real world lesson for the players. And isn’t it all about building resilience and character in the face of adversity?

unacceptable. You should speak up to the coach.

The coaches, docs, and owners already know that this club cheats to win. The parents on the teams with "guest players" playing down on fake cards also are 100% aware of what's going on.

Over time poor decisions and poor management will tank the club. I know of multiple parents that refuse to let their kids play there. I think this is what everyone is banking on.

For tournaments, what would you say team roster size should be to NOT invite guest players when 9v9 and assuming no one injured from core team? What about when 11 v11?

Same answer for regular season games?

Do you think it is more about lower track coach wanting to win or could lower being told to do to give playing time to upper kid that that is otherwise benched on Upper team?

What about when 11 v11? -14-16 kids (3-5 on the bench is good).

Same answer for regular season games? Ideal for 9v9 is 2 subs and (you really want to maximize all playing time for all kids and keep numbers low). Ideal for 11v11 is 3 subs for regular season u13-u15 and 4 subs for u16-u19. You really want all players playing at least half the game for developmental reasons.

Do you think it is more about lower track coach wanting to win or could lower being told to do to give playing time to upper kid that that is otherwise benched on Upper team? --Both of those things can be true. Some clubs do think about giving upper team players more playing time (for developmental reasons) and guest play them on lower teams. Ideally, guest players should come from lower level teams and guest play up. But if the lower level team requires a lot of help, then playing players down to help occurs often.

Only reason to pull guest players from upper teams is if lower teams have games that conflict. But in this case, you had your full team so there are no excuses for this.

I've seen this happen so many times.

Why name them? Its not going to change anything and coaches + parents will argue that they dont cheat.

In the situation where I say FOUR older players join a team at halftime everyone knew what was going on. Unfortunately it was their tournament using their fields. Complaining about it would only fall on deaf ears because its their tournamant director.

As I said before if this was a friendly fine be a cheater the outcome doesn't matter. But this was a real tournamant where wins and loses affect ranking.

In the end we still beat them. Which pissed them off even more because they tried cheating to win and still lost.

My g2010 was playing at a tournament. They beat everyone and in the finals were playing the host club. At halftime 4 new players that were obviously bigger than all other players showed up on the host clubs bench. People were yelling about it but the refs had deaf ears likely from $100s stuffed in each one .

My kids team still won but later we found out the "guest" players were g2008s. If this was a friendly no big deal but this was a tournament with ranking points on the line.

Rankings points?

Rankings points?

Yes....

Wins/losses affect rankings. And, wins/losses determine tournament winners.

Maybe your kids team doesn't win so it doesn't meant that much to you.
