Yes, crime is bad in backwater depressed cities. Should we be comparing the nation’s capital to them? Shouldn’t we be holding the nation’s capital to a standard for safety that’s as high as….The Bronx? The Bronx has twice as many people as DC and 64 murders this year. Yes, you are reading that correctly. The Bronx has 1.4 million people and 64 murders so far in 2025. So please save me this DC is safe garbage. https://www.nyc.gov/assets/nypd/downloads/pdf/crime_statistics/cs-en-us-pbbx.pdf |
OK. And after DC implements these policies, there will be a litany of lawsuits. And if (and its a big if) the current Supreme Court rules the same way as previous courts, DC also will stop using those tactics. And as in NYC, crime will have been reduced. I'm OK with that. |
+1 well said |
| None of this justifies calling out the National Guard. |
Good point. And in 2024, in D.C., there were 975 ARMED carjackings. Virtually none of the perpetrators were caught, prosecuted, and imprisoned for fittingly long sentences. If they were apprehended at all, D.C. simply released them back onto the streets. The you even coined their own term for D.C. carjacking: the called it “free cars.” They were aware there would be no penalty, even if caught. |
I’m fine if you lock them up too. What they all agreed on created much of this mess. We need responsible adults in those jobs we’re paying for. |
Because he currently lives in D.C. and it’s our nation’s capitol. How many foreign dignitaries and tourists go to Peoria? |
How many foreign dignitaries and tourists go to ward 8? |
Ward 8 is in D.C. I’m fine with sweeping Ward 8 with NG and prison buses if you won’t cry when it happens. |
I don’t disagree with your sentiment but no one has a right to wrap-around services. |
I know that gets said, but in all seriousness, why not? |
DP. The US has one of the highest rates of incarcerated people IN THE WORLD*. If incarceration worked, we should be one of the safest countries in the world. But we're not. Please explain how incarcerating more people would help DC. The top ten countries with the highest incarceration rates per 100,000 population, based on the most recent available data: El Salvador: 1,659 Cuba: 794 Rwanda: 637 Turkmenistan: 576 American Samoa: 538 United States: 531 Tonga: 516 Panama: 522 Guam: 475 Uruguay: 449 Source: Grok |
How many prisoners in the US come from the other 9 countries you cite? |
The free car epidemic touches every neighborhood in the city |
Actually, locking up violent offenders does reduce crime. |
