Why wouldn't every resident of VA apply ED to UVA?

That's why I didn't want to attend. Knew no way would my working class self and family fit in at UVA. Wanted to go to an in state school where I had a greater chance of fitting in. Even W&M and Tech seemed to be better choices.

UVA has a certain in state reputation.

Did not have my kids major.

Mine either.

UVA has really gone downhill.

DP than above - DH and I are alums and loved our time there. Regardless, I can see that it’s not the best fit for my DD, who still has a couple years until college. She’s very bright, has good grades etc but is really really put off by people who think they are smarter or better than others. Those people exist everywhere, but they are in higher numbers at a T25 school. Not singling UVA out for that. Generally, the vibe is a striver vibe. And there is a lot of pressure to work hard, play hard, be fit, be fashionable, etc etc. I know there are plenty of people who don’t follow that dominant culture but it is there. I think my kid would be happier at a school where they fit the dominant culture, slightly more relaxed, rather than have to find her people on the sides. That doesn’t bother me or DH one bit. There are plenty of places to get a good education and be ready for the future. We aren’t going to push UVA.

Because my kid chose an Ivy. Wanted a smaller school; more resources.

Good for some but not for everyone.

Half the student body is not white. That's not a majority.

Came here to say this. Not majority white. Very diverse school. Daughter loves it there.

Translation: they couldn't get in

Or it was a safety for them.

UVA is DD’s safety. It’s nice to have it because it puts a floor on many out-of-state colleges.

My kid got into WM & UVA. Chose a T10 instead. Would have picked WM over UVA- wanted smaller.

This is a weird post.

I went there and if I could go back I would have gone somewhere else, and yes, even to a lower ranked school.

My DD decided against UVa. She didn’t want to be surrounded by Tracy Flicks.

Same. I loved being in Charlottesville and the people I met outside of school, but my experience as a student was not great.

This. I went there and loved it and my older one plans to ED there. But I can see how some people wouldn't like the vibe/culture. How is that confusing?
