Why wouldn't every resident of VA apply ED to UVA?

We've been to the campus. We're too working class for that place.

Because the image of white nationalists carrying torches is still on the mind of some people.

We can afford a private university and neither of my kids want to live in the DMV as adults so it is probably better for them to go to a school where fewer kids come from a single state.

My NoVA kid hated UVA during the first campus visit. Rolled their eyes at the land acknowledgments every 10 minutes during the tour. And it didn't feel right.

He didn't do ED anywhere since they wanted to get into a different VA school with a certain program, and the program acceptance was not known until later in the process.

We mostly only applied to VA schools. Visited UVA several more times and learned to really like it. Moving into the dorms tomorrow. Fingers crossed for a great experience.

This. Admitted to better fit, cost not a consideration, and -if you care about this stuff - better USNWR ranked schools.

Why were they there again? Because they voted to take down the confederate statues in Charlottesville.

The white nationalists don't live in Charlottesville and they probably aren't going back now that the statues are gone.

This is a weird post.

+1 my kid doesn’t want to go there.

This school is too white for some. The majority of students are white.

Good for some but not for everyone.

Serious question, what makes UVA better than other state flagships, like U of TN, U of GA, U of FL, U of OR, WA, IA, MI, WI.....etc?

is it the teaching? the elite students from NOVA?

Half the student body is not white. That's not a majority.

Gosh I hope my kid doesn't go to UVA. I want him to experience life beyond Virginia. College is the perfect time to go beyond your comfort zone.

I don't know if this makes it "better," but it's smaller than every one of the schools you just listed, and much smaller than most of them, and the average student has higher qualifications than all of them as well.

White (Non-Hispanic) (57.9%)
White (Hispanic) (3.45%)

60%+ are white.

Nice cop out. Preparing yourself for the denial, eh?

You're basically suggesting that no student anywhere in the United States should attend college in state. That's ridiculous.

Depending on your source the numbers are slightly different. UVA is just as diverse as most schools. It's not overwhelmingly white.
