Buying kid an electric scooter to get around campus.

You can’t charge your scooter at a bike rack and you can’t bring it into the dorm.

As someone who lives a few minutes from a campus, I hate these stupid things so much. The kids just leave them laying around the sidewalk.

They are all over UCLA. But seem dangerous. Wouldn’t want DD to use.

Dangerous. I don’t recommend a scooter. I know a kid who ended up in the ER when using a scooter to get around campus. Better to just walk or rely on campus shuttles.

We know of a college student who died on one recently.

Definitely make sure the college allows. They are banned on most of campus at the college near us.

+100

E-scooters are much more dangerous than a bike for a number of reasons. Just get a bike, helmet and lock.

Also, if he hasn't asked for this, I wouldn't "solve" this problem for him ahead of time. Let him figure out what would make getting to class easiest for him. Maybe walking is what he wants to do (it's a way to make friends too, since you may walk with friends around campus).

Happens on bikes around campuses as well. If a student is not careless on a scooter and keeps at reasonable speed it can be a good means to get around a campus if crunched for time.

Get a moped instead. Harder to steal. Easier to use. DD had one to get to classes and team practices when living on campus.
