| Went to a nationals game recently. |
|
I bike through Ward 7 almost every day, but a little bit less often through Ward 8. I think it must have been beginning of last week for me?
So many lovely neighborhoods in that part of town. I do wish the bike infrastructure was a little better though! |
Where is Ward 8? Is it old SE DC near Navy Yard? |
Ward 7 |
You don't even live in DC yourself, so no one cares what you think. |
| I do a bike ride on the Anacostia trail every so often. |
| I went to the Smithsonian anacostia museum of African American history in 1994 for the immigrant exhibit. The neighborhood was a bit rough. I understand now that there has been great improvements in the neighborhood, but restaurants lack the old local flavor. |
|
Is that Anacostia? I'd go through a tunnel, over a river and then up the hill to the left?
If so, I went there in 2009. Daycare in Adams Morgan sent me there to get a voucher. Some DC agency is located there. |
| I've lived in Wards 1 and 3 for almost 20 years and I looked at a map to answer this question. Other than Navy Yard, I've been to JBAB several times. Please recommend any kid-friendly destinations so I can explore further! |
|
I live in Fairfax. While I only go to Ward 8 about once or twice a year (I typically go to anacostia park about once a year and nationals game once every summer…is nationals park even Ward 8?)
I suspect the original poster is trying to make that out to be some sort of crime related issue. But it has been about five years since I’ve been to Bethesda or Silver Spring for any reason. I think most people just stay around their own neighborhoods. |
|
I worked near JBAB for 10 years (until last year) so I was there daily. I don't feel qualified to comment because I drove in and out, didn't walk around. We'd go to lunch at Navy Yard sometimes, which was quiet during the day.
I agree with the PP who said people mostly only know their own neighborhoods. I live in a suburb that's frequently discussed on DCUM and most of the comments are from people who have only driven through, not walked or lived there. |
100% this. We go to different neighborhoods in both Ward 7 and Ward 8. Some areas are as nice as cleveland Park, but you would never know that from the media or sheltered people who never get out. Also, the Anacostia River trail is as nice as anything in the region for running, biking etc. and it is easy to rent kayaks and canoes on the Anacostia River, no different than going to Fletcher's on the Potomac. Yes, there are some areas that are not great, but it certainly isn't the hellhole the right wing media would have anyone believe. |
The enjoy your time in some vanilla exurb. |
Tunnel? Are you talking about going under the National Mall? |
| Yesterday. |
