Yes. They will keep trying to grown back though...hence why they are invasive. You will have to get the stumps ground and then add some tree killer to any roots left.

OP. This is kind of my point actually. I always thought of them as déclassé trees. However now I have one, and there are a lot in the neighborhood, and I kind of like them. They have a lot of selling points. They give a good cottage vibe at are a nice bridge to fall.

I still think Rose of Sharon is trashy though, even though it has beautiful leaves and a lot of flowers. But it always looks messy.

I like them but they grow so fast. We had to have ours removed after about 12 years.

And yes 4 years later they do still try to grow back!
