OP - open up Naviance scattergram.

Pick a school like UVa and VT where most TJ kids apply - and u will see that 4.4 is in the top quadrant - on the upper end.

My best guess is

3.25 to 4: 25%

4 to 4.25: 25%

4.25 to 4.40: 35%

4.40 and above 15%

You are way off. First of all, the Scattergrams represent the GPA at graduation when GPAs climb the highest because of all the post-AP classes every senior takes that are give them 5.0 for an A. A 4.5 puts you in the top 25% of juniors. A 4.4 puts you outside the top 1/3.

You’re even more off. 4.5 junior year is definitely top 10%.

That would be only 50 kids having a 4.5 or better. There is no way that is true.

DC had 4.55 by junior year and was secretly told to be among top 15 person (not percent). So yeah, 4.5 could well be top 10%.

PP said 4.55 at the end of JUNIOR year. That is before Senior year when everybody's GPA jumps a .5 from all the 5.0 weighted classes they take senior year. A 4.55 at the end of JUNIOR year is definately up there.

DP
Yes of course it's up there but top 3%?
All TJ classes are baseline honors with a small handful of exceptions. So even a handful of APs and an unweighted 4.0 can get you there.

Only if you get all As which is common at FCPS but really not common at TJ.

4.2 for TJ is a good GPA.

VT and UMD and W&M are targets for that GPA.

2 students even got into UVA with just slightly below a 4.2 according to Naviance. 8 students were accepted by UVA with SAT scores below 1500 (only one accepted with an SAT score below 1450). This would be over a three year period.

Average GPA/SAT for students accepted to UVA for the 3 years shown in Naviance 4.52 GPA and 1,552.7 SAT score.

For approximate end of junior year GPA, adjust it down by minus 0.05

If this is true then I retract my comment. If 4.55 would have been to 5% at the end of junior year in 2022, them I can believe it is to 3% last year..

Adjust down by minus 0.15 for end of sophomore year gpa distribution.

Likely not into STEM majors. Student can be in bottom 25% of class, and yet easily get into UVA majors like Anthropology, Sociology, Media Studies, library science, etc

Actually, the poster said a 4.55 "BY JUNIOR YEAR." That does not mean by the end. It is not clear what it means.
