OMG. So sad.

I am not ready for this.

I know there are already a lot of celebrities who have died, that were very present in my youth entertainment exposure, but this hits home.

We are not old. We're still trying to hide piercings from our elders and sneaking off to concerts in Baltimore.

Geez so why is swimming even allow out there?

It's always swim at your own risk at those kinds of places. Everyone knows that.

Agree. He was so adorable as a teenager.

This one is hitting me hard too.

The Cosby Show was better for him being in it.

Sad day.

This is so very sad.
This hits hard for me, too. He was a big part of the pop culture of my childhood.

RIP.

He seemed like a good guy. Private, which I respect. Worked on a podcast about mental health.

I'm so sad to hear this. What a tragic passing.

Similar thing happened to my high school classmate. He drowned on vacation with his family in OBX when a riptide/strong current pulled him out.

Was there a lifeguard there? And how does someone stay safe with these strong currents?

I’ve visited the OBX my entire life. They work very hard to educate visitors about rip currents and what to do if caught in them. Go to a life guarded beach and look for signs/warnings about surf conditions. When i was young and our kids were younger we stuck to lifeguarded beaches. Now DH and i are often alone and only wade in to our knees so we don’t worry. Even so, we have had lifeguards approach us when on lifeguarded beaches to personally point out dangerous conditions.

Either try to swim parallel to the shore to escape the riptide or just let the riptide carry you out (if you do that, wave to a lifeguard). Don't swim toward the shore while in the riptide.

This is so sad. Malcolm had a wonderful spirit, and he was great actor.
