Yes. I'm not naive. I didn't think they were good people. But until recently I believed even bad people wanted a stable and prosperous country with rules people could plan around. |
My understanding is the nominees used to get senate approval as long as they were decently qualified attorneys; academics and experience were more important than partisanship. Now it feels like there is an entire industry through fedsoc and other groups to push their trained candidates on the court, sane wash radical ideas by producing dubious scholarship, and then using the same scholarship to signal to the court on how to rule. This, at least, did not seem to be there before. Though I do believe there have been other periods in history where tensions with the court were high. |
