It’s all just so disappointing and deflating. Why the hell can’t the Court even give the American people the respect of telling us why and under what authority they are making these decisions? I want to believe that the arc of the moral universe bends toward justice m but it’s hard when we are in the midst of this backlash.
I don't want to be a jerk, but did anyone REALLY think the Court was anything but a group of political hacks?
My understanding is the nominees used to get senate approval as long as they were decently qualified attorneys; academics and experience were more important than partisanship. Now it feels like there is an entire industry through fedsoc and other groups to push their trained candidates on the court, sane wash radical ideas by producing dubious scholarship, and then using the same scholarship to signal to the court on how to rule. This, at least, did not seem to be there before. Though I do believe there have been other periods in history where tensions with the court were high.
