Somehow it sounds like OP is trying to blame his wife. 🤣 Anyone else would just say they were helping their in-laws move but OP needs to make sure everyone knows how mad he is that his wife made him help.
I don’t believe you know exactly how much was in the clip that you can’t keep track of, and Nephew owes you no explanation of his finances or how he paid for gas. If you accused me of stealing with no evidence I’d tell you to F off also. |
I also want to know. Do you have reason to believe nephew knew it was your money clip when he found it? If it’s grandpa’s truck, he might have assumed it was grandpa’s money, so he might have thought he was using grandpa’s money to fill grandpa’s gas tank, and now that he knows it was your money and you’re pissed, he’s too cowardly to admit to it. |
You keep trying to turn this back on OP, but he's the one who helped out, and he's the one from whom money was stolen. He has every reason to be annoyed. OP, you have no recourse, because you have no proof. You won't see that money again. BUT you will do a lot of good by telling the nephew that you don't appreciate what he did. He will be careful with you in the future. That's worth something. |
No one cares what you think. You already know that. |
OP thinks he had $120 in this money clip that he didn’t even notice fell out of his pocket. It’s also possible it was only $20 to start with and he’s misremembering. |
I'd let it go and probably never assist again. Lesson learned. |
How did you know the mileage? Did anyone question him about the mileage? It seems he should have to explain that.
I would probably assume the kid took the money too but accept that the inlaws or anyone else who happened to be in the car with the kid could have taken it. You can't be certain it is the kid. |
Kid did it and we all know it. Eff him. He'd be dead to me. |
Weird title. |
Stop the detective work. You lost the money. The End.
I'd be glad a family member had used for it rather than a stranger, but I would not blame anyone unless you have it on video. Keep your suspicion to yourself. |
Bad news, lost some money. Good news found clip and some money still in it. Good news the truck that everyone is borrowing was refilled with gas (thought standard practice when borrow car). Good news, you can now torch entire relationships with wife and extended family by making this a big deal with them and accusing nephew with evidence if been looking for something to be light that torch flame! Bad news, if don’t want to torch it all, needs to all be old news. Petty news, bring only off-brand cheap food to all future family BBQs until the $100 is met from savings for bringing Kola v Coke, no name chips, etc. |
Corrected |
I’d tell wife to tell the whole family never to expect your help for anything again since they’re lying thieves. Write them off and then let it go. |
Now you know your nephew is a thief and a liar. The only slightly more generous interpretation is that he thought the money clip was his grandpa’s, and so he used his grandpa’s money to pay for gas, and then was too embarrassed to fess up and/or did not have $100 to reimburse you, his uncle, for the gas, so he lied. That still sucks. |
A money clip? |
