Recommend a good drama series

These aren't exactly family fare, but some of the best dramas on TV:

Breaking Bad
The Leftovers
The Bear (some say it's a comedy, but it's more tragi-comic IMO).

For All Mankind is more family friendly and also a great series (Apple)

Preference is for family dramas. I have watched Parenthood and This is Us and was thinking of something along the lines of that and We Were Liars.

Friday Night Lights if you loved those two! Same team.

That’s what came to my mind too! I was so pleasantly surprised by this one.
Also
Six Feet Under
Your Friends and Neighbors
Somebody Somewhere(funny but drama enough)

I LOVED Six Feet Under and Somebody Somewhere. I was totally underwhelmed by Your Friends and Neighbors and I loved that cast.

OP, we have similar tastes. I highly recommend:

Offspring (don't let the pilot put you off-- it is not very good)
Somebody Somewhere
Pernille
Brothers and Sisters
Felicity
The Fosters
Andor
