What do you want to buy that you have zero need for?

What do you want, not what do you have.

I had a not-so-great mother, who liked to deprive me of things we could easily have paid for. When I went to college, she didn't buy me anything, and I bought my own twin sheets with the money I made from my job and I didn't know to get twin xl and so they didn't fit. So I had sheets that I just had to lay on even though they literally didn't attach to the bed at the bottom. My duvet thing didn't fit either. My roommate complained that the room didn't look good because of it.

Pottery Barn Teen has a dorm room supplies build-your-bed feature, and I can spend hours choosing various Love Shack Fancy sheet, duvet, throw, and throw pillow combos.

Why didn’t you return the sheets and get a set that fit?

Because she was 18 and in college and probably couldn't go back to the store to return them easily.

I’d like to know why she’s still blaming her mom for a mistake that she made on her own.

Because she was a 17 or 18 year old kid, because maybe the store was too far away for her to get to, because many places won't take open sheets back even if you swear you didn't sleep on them, because.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. You deserved a mom who would lovingly pick out and purchase the things you needed to make your college dorm room a home.

My mom didn’t do this either, but I didn’t expect it of her? Are moms really supposed to decorate a college dorm room? Isn’t that the opportunity for kids to learn how to decorate on their own and get their own stuff? I bought my sheets/dorm stuff at a thrift store, and it’s how I learned to make my money stretch.

The kids may pick out what they like, but parents generally buy it. You having to sleep on sheets that were used by strangers is very sad, as is you having had to pay for it.

I have no need but I am trying to teach my 4-year-old to ride and i have hope that she will learn and we can go on weekend rides together.

Before you troll nastily, read better. She's not blaming her mother for that, but for not caring enough to provide her with basics in her life, not just for her college move.

I want more bookshelves filled with antique leather bound books by famous authors. Jane Austin, Lists May Alcott, the Brontë sisters, etc. I also want bookshelves full of books to read, but the leather books are just to look at.

At the UCs, the sheets and pillows were provided by the housing office. All the sheets were too short for the xl beds and no fitted sheets. It wasn't sad because that's what was provided. Y'all are spoiled.

I bought my own. Parents were paying tuition, books, food and transportation. I worked 18 hrs a week on-campus and full-time during the summer. Many students did the same at our public university.

I'd like to know why people are focusing on that instead of the fact that she likes to browse through Pottery Barn, you know, the answer to OP's question.

I'm sorry you had to work so many hours and had to buy your own. It's great that you graduated debt-free thanks to your parents.

I love looking at bedding and housewares although I have more than enough. I will browse Pottery Barn, Garnet Hill, Horchow, Frontgate, and Ebay for fun. Never shopped at those kinds of stores when I was growing up because we couldn't afford it. Right now I'd like a set of Le Crueset even though they are getting too heavy for me.

You seem a little dense. I am not sorry and I actually did graduate with debt since they were not able cover all of it. The point is I was happy to do it so I could attend an excellent university.
