Summer breaks here are too long! I guess I am in the minority but I think just July and August off would be the perfect length for summer break. Prevents too much of a summer slide. Go back after Labor Day.
And teens need to be in school too (else they will just do stupid things out of boredom) |
That’s two months off. Not much different from what they have now. |
I live outside fcps now, and don’t intend to derail. We have essentially all of June and July, and we’re back the first week of Aug.
10 months of school, 2 months of summer. Fcps is similar but it’s mid June to mid Aug. I don’t know the answer, but I wish something were different. It feels like too much school, too little summer. And then they do the required 180 days but kids and teachers have a weird mindset of “wasted days” that they criticize but also lean into, ie “oh there’s only 2 days on the last week before winter break, so those are nothing days.” Life is weird. |
How horrible! Working parents are not able to take the summer off and their kids attend camps that are fun and keep them happily occupied and supervised! A calamity! I remember being bored a lot during summer and being jealous of neighborhood friends who were at camp. My favorite memories were of attending over night camp for 2 weeks and vacation with the family. The rest of summer was fine but not exciting. Yes, we played outside but I was more than ready for school several weeks before school. Plenty of kids were at camp, day or over night. My kid seems to be having a blast with a combination of day camps, Scout camps, family vacation, and a few weeks of hanging out at home doing nothing. Our neighborhood is pretty dead, most of the kids attend camp or are traveling. DS has one friend who is home that he hangs out with in the afternoon. He has another who will come over after he gets home from camp. |
