A foreign power would more likely attack Colorado Springs or Omaha. Both strategic nuclear command centers. Or some place of military significance, like Bahrain and the fifth fleet combined with Hawaii to take out the Pacific fleet.

Terrorist attack? Who knows.

Yeah, they would skip right over the pencil pushers in the Pentagon.

It would be an act of symbolism. It would boost morale of our enemies and demoralize the US . DC is high on the list.

It was a double target on 9/11 if you count the PA plane.

What do you pack for the afterlife?

I think the squirrel nut zippers had a song about this very topic in the 90s

… adding ground-teeth cakes to my go bag now. To pass around in the afterlife.

So I actually looked into this at one point. I think our idea of the huge bomb from WW2 is what is stuck in our head. But nuclear weapons have changed. A dirty bomb is much more likely, that only instantly effects a small area. But the lasting radiation will do WAY MORE DAMAGE, especially because we are all stupid. If you stay inside for 48 hours (hard to do if you are sheltering in your workplace) you have a much higher change of survival. But if you go outside, deadly radiation will ensure a painful death over the course of some time. Then the radiation lingers of course, and will cause many more slower deaths afterwards as people wander outside.

So it does depend on the half life of whatever is used.

I remember reading some DC preparedness document and being kind of upset I might not be killed in the initial blast.

DC likely wouldn't be hit first. They want to keep communication as a possibility.

Read Nuclear War: A Scenario by Annie Jacobsen

This is the exact scenario of this book

Whether DC is high on the list depends on who is doing it. If you assume somewhat rational actors, they probably won't target DC for reasons discussed by PPs. If not rational, like certain terrorists who believe there is a heaven waiting for them filled with virgins, them DC is a target, perhaps for the symbolism. But luckily those terrorists don't have the big bombs. If you are not caught in the initial detonation, you should be ok.

Right?

Probably not but I’m kind of hoping it does. I’ve found living in 2025 to be exasperating.

Twinsies! At this point, getting nuked is the lesser of two evils..

Actually, the 3 airports will get bombed first: Andrew’s AB, National and Dulles. Fall out probably be around 75 mile radius for each airport. But worse, if you draw venn diagram and areas that overlap, you will get double dose in radiation.

Andrew’s is not an airport

Andrew’s is not an airport

It is for the POTUS.

It is literally an airport. Not a commercial one, but an airport nonetheless.

Quit and go already.

I doubt this is going to happen however bombers are coming
Radicalized Americans by the end of this year. Trump has given the green light no going back now

Think of all the Iranian hit squads Biden let in the last 4 years. They made sure we are perfectly prepared for situations like this.

I think one’s already hit and we weren’t told about it
