daycare vs nanny share

This is a really dangerous approach. A bad nanny is so much worse than a vetted daycare.

First priority is safety and a nanny that drives drunk or ignores a child is very dangerous.

I understand it’s last resort for some families due to finances, or first resort for some moms who need their kid to be watched by someone else for 60 hours a week but let’s not fool ourselves that that’s at all good for babies. Proof is in the reason behind all these people’s responses who prefer daycare - they prefer it because it’s less stress on them, not because it’s best for their child.

Somebody is trying to start the daycare wars lol

Us seasoned parents with common sense will ignore ignore ignore

Agree that some people on here are just trying to stir up trouble. OP, there is no one system that is best. There are good nannies and bad nannies, and good daycares and bad daycares. So much depends on which providers you are able to find. Do some research and some interviews, then pick whichever seems to make the most sense for your family. If it ends up being the wrong choice, you can always try a different option.

I assume you are a strong advocate of extensive paid parental leave, as am I, since we both want what’s best for babies and families.

Be wary of anyone telling you “always X over Y.” It depends on your temperament (do you like managing people? Are you good at being an employer?), your job (can you work set hours? Do your conference calls run long), your spouse’s ability to jump in for drop off/pick up/ nanny who called out sick; whether you have family or friends who can serve as last minute back up; how old your kid is; baby’s temperament; baby’s health; your home set up (do you WFH? Do you have a third car for a nanny?); and on and on and on.

I am maybe a rare case but I much preferred daycare to a nanny. But by the time we switched to daycare it was my fourth child and she was three, so not the same as a baby. We could absolutely afford a nanny but my personality is not well suited to manage a person and my job was not well suited to deal with a nanny's last minute cancellations. And I hated sharing my house (I WFH and felt trapped or like I had to tiptoe around at lunch) and hated sharing a car with the nanny - ended up buying a third car for my convenience.

Avoid daycares as much as possible for all the obvious reasons.

I have no words for such a silly offtopic post. Good lord. Guess you own or profit from daycares is the only thing one can conclude, but your arguments are completely bizarre.
