Non-Jew but it's common enough that of course I've heard of it. Always sort of amazed by name threads when posters who are unfamiliar think it's a commentary on the name, rather than their own lack of awareness. |
Beautiful name. Mazel. |
+1. I love it but would definitely assume Jewish so a bit odd if you're not. |
I know Thalia, haven’t seen it written as Talia. Talia seems more a diminutive of Natalia, but guess it’s nice as a full first name also. |
I wouldn't assume Jewish. The Talias I new were Greek and Italian. |
Pretty name. Makes me think of Talia Shire. |
Yes, and Rocky! Talia Shire is of Italian background, not sure or not if she’s Jewish. |
I think its a Hebrew name. |
My child has a friend with this name - I think it's lovely (family is Jewish FWIW). |
I wouldn’t know it’s a Jewish name but I would pronounce it “TAAA-leah”. |
For me, I like it.
But it’s a mom name..to me. Maybe only to me. Like seeing a 1st grader this year, with my name. Weird. (Think, amber, in terms of 80s popularity). |
(like Natalia) |
I love it. FWIW, I know 2 people named Talia, one in her 20s and one in middle school. Neither is Jewish. |
I know 3 women with the name and each pronounces it differently. A Jewish woman pronounces it Tull-ya. A Latina pronounces it Tal-ya (short for Natalia). A black woman pronounces it Tuh-Leah. |
Yeah, that happens, even within the same culture. I know two Simas and one pronounces it See-mah, and one Simma. |
