Affordable schools for nursing

There are a lot of direct entry nursing programs at PA colleges- Robert Morris, IUP, York, Neumann, west Chester, Bloomsberg, U of Scranton, Gannon, Duquesne, Widener, and more. When my DC was looking five years ago, I found a pretty comprehensive list of all direct entry programs on College Confidential.

Georgia Southern if your kid is ok with Southeast Georgia.

She would like be admitted to Appalachian State in Boone, NC. The student body is going to be 90% NC residents, though. App has a solid nursing program. If she doesn't like cold / winter, it would not be a good fit. (One of my friend's daughters left due to the cold.)

Not a lot of merit at the NC publics, but the NC schools' OOS tuition is cheaper than many other OOS rates.

Creighton has a very well regarded nursing program and they have direct admit to the nursing program when admitted to the college.

She would have to be agreeable to serving in the military as a nurse afterward- but it’s a great opportunity!

Link to the money that’s set aside? You need to post specifics and name the college that offers this.

Any university with a nursing program and an ROTC program has ROTC scholarship dollars specifically set assigned for nursing students. Army ROTC would have the most money available as it is the biggest branch and needs more active duty nurses than other branches

FYI - GMU is changing in recent years to have many more students living on campus - or in walkably adjacent to campus commercial apartments. So it now is possible to have a traditional college experience there.

This is the answer. Excellent nursing program, traditional college experience, in-state tuition.

PP again - sorry, I didn't catch that the GPA is under 3.5. This might not be the answer, but you could always try applying.

nursing school is pretty competitive. 3.5 may not cut it.

it certainly won't at many schools.

in my city, going to CC for prereqs is definitely a good option. so much cheaper! easier to get good grades to apply to nursing school. could get everything done in probably 3 years.

Georgetown also has a strong nursing program as does NYU.

There have been special bonuses for Georgetown and NYU in the past where you get to attend tuition free if you commit to 3 yrs nursing locally. I don't know if any of these are still active, but it is worth investigating.

Not to be rude but Emory has the strongest nursing program on earth.

JMU also doesn’t offer direct admission. I have a friend whose daughter is a student at JMU going through the nursing application process now and it’s a lot of work.

Shenandoah University.

It's a small private but still has dorm life, DIII sports, and a great theater/music program (great for non-performing arts students to watch performances).

They offer decent scholarships that bring costs closer to in-state tuition.
