See above post. This is a school issue and principal is allowing it. Not happening at all schools. Parents should address their concerns about all these movies to leadership.

Yea you’re right they should do that! No reason the teachers should be able to get things all closed out on their page long end of year task list, which includes but is not limited to…

1. Finishing and finalizing all grades
2. Making sure all students have turned in all school assigned items
3. Making sure teachers have turned in all library and technology items
4. Making sure teachers have ensured and turned in all receipts and dollars to finance
5. Making sure all books if assigned were returned and replanted in the book rooms (yes this all still exists)
6. Cleaned out their classrooms of personal belongings and removing all items from walls (even if in the case of most ms/hs teachers they will have the exact same room next year)
7. Formalized those grades and made phone calls for students who will not matriculate
8. Completed new grading training for next year

Any level teacher is free to chime in with the other items that I forgot

Oh and don’t forget how all you parents will complain when teachers complain and are frustrated about not having enough time to get all prepped during their actual hours in August. Love an es teacher who sadly is stuck in meetings all day being there until 7-8pm for the entire week and half before school starts making the room welcoming for your students. God forbid

I am the previous poster and a teacher. Our principal allows 1 movie at end of year. We are expected to teach and have activities planned. I stopped teaching new content June 5. June 6th was Field Day and class parties. I showed 40 mins of a movie that day. The past few days were filled with fun activities, finishing up our read aloud novel, organizing/cleaning and extra recess.

I think limiting movies is a good thing. Having expectations for your staff is also a good thing.

Elementary. Now rereading your post, I assume you are secondary. Needs are different but I still don’t think it is okay to gave kids watch movies all day. My upper ES kids helped me organize/clean/run things down to different places.

That was my post as a retired teacher. I won’t claim to know how it is being ES. Just always figured you all have so much on your plate that if you can get extra time so you’re home next Monday instead of still at work that’ll always be okay with me as a former teacher and also a parent.

I will be checked out tomorrow. But I always have previous students come and help clean up for service hours.

Teachers’ duty hours end shortly after the kids go home.

This is a major problem with education. Teachers are required to work nights and weekends because they receive very little time at work to actually do their work. Your post is a great example of this — the expectation that teachers should give up their own hours all the time to get work done.

My HS student did not go in yesterday. I had him start his summer break early.

My kid a rising 6th grader had fun. They got to spend 1 last time with friends who are moving away from the area. They had a class brunch. The last week of school should be fun to celebrate all the hard work they did all year.

In high school exam schedules go until almost the very last day.

PP here. I only asked about the level (ES, MS, or HS). The post before that wasn't mine. I also teach an ES grade (third) and we did not show movies. Admin specifically states that in end of year expectations that we are to not show movies.

+1 yep. My kid had a final exam on Tuesday, June 10. However, we saw that his final grade has already been posted online before the final. He had a high A already in the class so he could have failed the final and still had an A.
