Mine got to watch two movies while the teacher cleaned up. |
Mine have been watching movies for a week in APS. They are doing nothing. |
They came home safely |
Nothing. I didn't send them. |
My kid (6th grade), got yearbook signed, had extra recess, and decorated front of school with chalk for the rest of the school. Sounds appropriate for the last day. |
My kid in APS MS is still turning in projects and doing work |
They did a math quiz to identify areas to review over the summer and discussed a bunch of reading challenges and other activities to do.
The rest of the day was yearbook signing, cleaning out the last of their stuff, class superlatives, etc. |
It's the last day. It should absolutely be fun and clean up. |
Finished watching the 5 movies that were started on Monday. It was a week of movies. You could also get your yearbook signed if you brought it. Some people didn’t want to carry anything. Absolutely no learning, no games, no tests, no worksheet, no quiz, no academics, no introduction of ideas for next year, no writing— at all for the last three days. |
My kid’s teacher emailed what they did: Presented readers theaters, signed yearbooks, met with reading buddies and watched part of a movie. Elementary |
Cleaned out their desks/cleaned up and had their class party. Up until that the last day the others seemed pretty normal. ES
Field Day MS |
OP, what would you like to happen on the last day of school? Isn’t that the one day that kids can simply just socialize and have fun? |
The last day and the last three days were one movie after another. The teachers just used movies as their babysitter. They didn’t even play a fun classroom game or read a book or practice penmenship. They have no creativity in the classroom. The teachers checked out last week. The rooms were cleaned last week. They just don’t care. |
Absolutely. That said, the school year is almost two weeks longer than it was when we moved to FCPS several years ago. So when the kids have done so little the last two weeks, it makes me frustrated that their summer has been shortened for seemingly no good reason. School could have ended after Memorial Day with little to no impact on learning (and without sacrificing the additional holidays added to the calendar). |
My Longfellow 8th grader last day of school was 05/30. He and DH went to Florida for soccer training that will last 11 weeks. The last 1 1/2 weeks from FCPS is completely useless. |
