My kid is about to turn 13. He has been growing but at the same rate he has his whole life. We have not seen any of the easily seen signs of puberty, no facial hair, no darkening leg hair, no voice change, no massive growth spurt. We are waiting for him to start puberty, I expect that because he is starting a bit later he will be one of the kids that stops growing at 19 or 20.
He has friends who had facial hair and a large growth spurt at 11. He went from 99th percentile for height to the 80th percentile last year. I suspect he will be lower on the percentile charts this year. But he is still about the same height as his friends who started puberty earlier. |
That's the exact trajectory of my son. He had his growth spurt a 16 1/2 and is now 6'5" and much taller than most of his friends except for a couple on the basketball team... |
This was my older son exactly, and he did nearly all of his growing between ages 14 1/2 and 16. About 8-9 inches. At the peak he was growing nearly an inch per month. Then grew 1 more inch between 16-17 and done. In the end he didn’t finish growing all that late, but seemed to grow at a faster clip during his growth spurt than some boys do. It was fast and furious, and he became very skinny/awkward for awhile (and got stretch marks down his back, which have almost entirely faded away). |
My DS grew about 9-10” during his. |
