When do boys stop growing?

So variable. My son grew a little in college, but he was also late to have started his pubertal growth spurt.

My DS had a major growth spurt when he turned 12 (summer before 6th grade) and continued growing all throughout the year. He grew a couple inches through 7th and 8th grade and topped out at 5’5” by the time he turned 15. He wishes he could be taller but height is unfortunately not in the genetic cards for him.

My two boys stopped growing around 19. One was always tall and seems to have done most of the growing in elementary and middle school. The other did most of the growing in high school. They're 6'2 and 6'1 now respectively.

My 19-year old college freshmen came home noticeably taller and more muscular. Everyone commenting on it this summer. He turns 20 this September.

He was 5’4” Freshmen year in HS. 5’8” sophomore year, 5’10 Junior year, 5’11” when he left for college. He’s at least 6 feet now.

My brother left for college 5’10” and graduated at 6’2”.

My rising HS Senior looks like he’s 14-15. He’s 17. Lot of growing left. No facial hair, long limbs. He was 5’3” Freshmen year. Just started growing this year (Jr) now 5’9”-5’10” just beginning to fill out. I think he grew an inch last week.

We grow late too. It’s hysterical seeing MS photos where everyone towers over my kids…now my kids are taller than most in their group at 19.

Also have a late bloomer who didn’t grow until he was 16 and is now 6’5” at 19.

Also keep in mind op that sloot of parents , surprisingly mostly moms, are delusional about their son's height. They'll claim he's 6ft and over and he's 5' 10" at best. Some even want to argue about it.

I've noticed that also. Also men always exaggerate their measurements.

Still growing, but hoping to slow that roll. My kid thinks anything over 6’5” will put him “in the weird zone.” I’m not quite sure what that means except that most teens don’t want to be a serious outlier from a perceived norm.

Yup. My 15 year old just hit 6’6 and he is not happy. Horrified he’s going to get taller and never fit in clothes, shoes, airplane seats, cars, etc. He wishes he were a few inches shorter. Meanwhile my 17 year old is 6’2 and he’s sad that he’s probably done because he was secretly hoping to be a tall as the youngest.

Argue about it? With who? You sound nuts.

My sons get measured at all yearly physicals. And then for sports ones. Who would I argue with? Their doctor? lol

My oldest is an athlete (18) and measured 5’11 and 1/2inch. People keep telling ME he’s over 6 feet—they put him at 6’1”. He looks tall. With sneakers on —yeah gives him another 1-2”, but they don’t believe me and want to argue with ME when I tell them he’s under 6 feet.

.

Most boys grow between 8-10 inches during their growth spurt so it seems like your son is close to being done. I’m going to assume that by his age and those numbers he’s slightly above average height.

Is it possible for a boy to grow more than 10 inches during a growth spurt?

My friend's son grew 9 inches in about 8 months (with the stretch marks to prove it). I'm guessing he probably has hit 10".

Wow. That sounds painful!

If he's only grown an 1" in the past year, he's towards the end of his growth.

Some of this depends on onset of puberty.

Both DS and DH were late bloomers. DH grew till about 20/21. DS just turned 20, and grew about an 1" maybe the last year, so he's definitely at the tail end. He might have like .5" more to grow. He was super short until about 17. He was barely over 5' freshman year. He's now about 5'11".
