Seriously, how did you all travel growing up?! I think we had three kids on sofa bed for some trips. One bathroom.

In the 80s and 90s there were MANY more hotel rooms that offered 2 queen beds as an option. Now it's often 2 double beds, which are not fit for 2 grown adults. I grew up in a family of 5 and we would get 2 queens and a cot. Hotels don't allow that now as they want to force you into a second room.

For young kids, I'd have them share the pull out. But as they get older I'd be more inclined to get 2 rooms.

I would not because I’ve done it and they fought for 45 minutes before they went to sleep. I’ll still do it for one night stays but not for a vacation.

When they were teenagers? You really think two or three teens (or almost teens) can share a bed smaller than a queen?

A 9 year old is neither a teen nor an "almost teen".

Try embassy suites or something similar with two beds plus the couch. That way your kids can share the bed or one can opt to use the couch.

OP here - the kids are not big. Oldest is maybe 80 lbs. Younger one is less than 60 lbs. This will be in Europe, so I am not traveling with a sleeping bag or air mattress. It specifically states that the room will sleep 4, so I assume the pullout would be big enough for 2. It also states that cots are not available.

Is it an American chain? I would not feel certain the sofa bed will be big enough. Email the hotel to ask.

You are all ridiculous. Two small kids on a sofa bed is more than fine.

It is through Marriott, but I am not sure if it really is owned by Marriott. I feel like they have relationships with lots of hotels in Europe that aren’t actually owned by Marriott.

I would ask the hotel to confirm, because I have definitely run across single pullouts in Europe, and sometimes kids are treated differently than adults when stating how many can sleep in a room.

My kids have no trouble sleeping on a pullout sofa but the two of them sleeping together regardless of bed size leads to fights and grumpiness (one boy, one girl) so I avoid whenever possible. If we need to share beds we split so one of us is with each kid.

This never worked for my kids, or even sharing a bed. If we had insisted it would have just meant cranky under slept kids. Our solution is that we travel with our own good quality aerobed for one of the kids.

It's vacation. I want everyone comfortable and feeling a bit luxurious so I just booked 2 rooms over a suite at 50% more - but you know what's important to your family so just do what you feel comfortable doing.

You can fit two adults on a double or have a kid share with a parent.

My kids fight so much over who has to sleep on the sofa bed that I've started avoiding places where I can't get a real bed for everyone.

Have you seen the size of Americans these days? 2 on a double

I think sofa beds are always more uncomfortable than just sleeping on a sofa. I wouldn’t even open it. Maybe bring air mattresses? That’s infinitely more comfortable. Even a yoga mat is more comfortable than a sofa bed.
