I’m tired of these, too. It’s every day a new doomsday thread about AI…I feel like it’s a bit of something. I posted about this but my post was removed.
What is the bot hoping to achieve?

They do seem like bot posts. I was trying to put my finger on it.

I am also tired of these posts. They are all along the same lines and one or more new one each day instead of adding to an existing thread. I reported this and some others but Jeff doesn’t seem to mind them.

So ... don't read them?

Until he gets cancer from building them.

some of you posters are so GD annoying. does it ever get old being so negative?

We need UBI and a generous one to boot. yang was right.

Assuming that the technofascists think the common citizen deserves a generous UBI. We’re assuming we’ll be dealing with nice people who give a hoot what becomes of the masses.

I’ve posted on this and similar threads: we are humans. Why are we actively working to displace OURSELVES with computing? Just this week I’ve seen two concerning headlines relating to AI: one AI system which refused to turn off, ignoring a command to do so, and another one threatening to blackmail its engineers if they disable it.

This is dystopian. What’s further, it’s ENTIRELY (for now) in our human hands whether or not to continue developing this technology. I sincerely question the wisdom of those who advocate for AI.

What is the real agenda????

Do we give in to the technofascists (Elon et al) and let their AI ruin us or do we lean into our base with economic populism (the workers who elected us) and try to implement policies to protect them?

Now that we have the power, what do we do?

Umm, I hate to break it to you, but republicans are the ones pushing AI.

Half of the Republicans are pushing it. Half are calling AI leaders Technofascists who want us all to be their digital serfs.

And Democrats aren't saying shit.

The party that gets people that actually work for a living is the party that wins. And - amazingly - Democrats are losing that population. It's breathtaking how inept Democrats are these days.

In an ideal world, both the DNC and the RNC would disappear. There are a lot of common sense solutions that would appeal to most people - whether progressive urban or conservative rural. But unfortunately we have a system that rewards the extremists. And AI is only going to push that further.

The founding fathers were wrong. We should have had a parliamentary system.

They will give you just enough to not starve to death. It's happened before - in fact, it happens every time a group gets a lot of political and economic power over another group.

I mean, if this was my life I’d just kill myself lol. Maybe that’s what these people want.

I have been using a lot of AI in the last month for my job as a coder. It is downright amazing how much easier it makes it. That one really hard part - just ask AI. However, sometimes it gives the wrong answers or overlooks a key point which you would only know if you you know. It often fails at looking at the big picture - though sometimes not. Problem is if you use it for anything too big - it is very hard to debug. I think AI will mean that we won't need as many developers but we will still need good ones. And yes, even at the junior level.

But how do you buy junk food, booze, gamble, or attend bread and circuses if you don't have any money? See the problem? We will have to go back to a bartering based system at this rate.

Security work? OK, but it's not like there are 2 billion of those jobs needed across the world.

Because 1) humans are lazy and 2) a portion of humans have a deep seated hatred of humanity and think that we need higher intelligence to save ourselves.

All this AI talk has replaced the Metaverse talk that was prevalent only a few years ago.
All vague promises and the 4th estate needs to stay relevant by trumpeting SOMETHING.

Been saying it for years. All those white collar degrees are waste of money now. But did anyone listen? Nope.

Just like machinery replaced most farmers, AI will replace most desk jobs.

I notice this mindset a lot among certain groups of people these days. A hive-mind behavior, of wanting to be protected, cared for, like livestock.

They never seem to realize the purpose of livestock though.

Still waiting for all of the truck drivers to lose their jobs to self-driving trucks. It’s been, what, 10 years?
