This year a lot. One 10 day one, and 4 long weekend trips (although i guess one is Wed to sat) |
At least two vacations every summer. |
We usually do a week right after school ends, and 1-2 weeks at the very end of the summer before school starts. DH and I each get 5 weeks of vacation through work, and have a limited ability to telework so we'll try to log a day or two of work, plus overlap our trips with July 4th and Labor Day, so that our PTO is closer to 10-12 days vs the full 15 days you'd normally have to take with 1+2 week trips. Our school system gets out at the very end of June and starts after Labor Day. |
We typically take just one one-week vacation in the summer. This year we are taking a two week vacation. |
It varies.
Some years we take a big trip abroad for 2+ weeks. Other years we do a week here or there. Most summers we also throw in a few long weekends. With Memorial Day, Juneteenth, and Labor Day, it’s easy to maximize PTO by adding a day or two around a holiday weekend. Not every trip needs to be a full week. Short trips are fun, too. |
We cannot afford vacations. We try to do a few long weekends at the beach off season. I’d like to camp, my family is NOT into it. I can take unpaid leave my partner is a fed so gets some paid days. We used to have some air points from previous job and used that to travel a bit, again off season.
I’d be thrilled at a 3rd rate beach house pretty much anywhere. Do not need luxury. Local or international. |
I’m sorry to hear that. Also love your phrasing, very loving. Wishing you all ease. |
We typically take 2 weeks off for summer vacation. We also take a week at spring break. Then there are the random days during the school year. |
We do a week (driving) as a family - about 5 hrs away. I take our two children to visit my sister and parents - typically 5 days but over a weekend and sometimes can work extra hours before so can often do it only taking 1-2 days of leave. This year we’re also spending Father’s Day weekend at a soccer tournament / staying in a hotel but not sure that counts. We did two weekend staycations to a hotel last year (4th of July and Labor Day), which was fun and we’d consider again, but that didn’t require any time off. My husband is concerned about our jobs and the economy so I haven’t booked this summer’s travel yet. |
One week |
We usually take two weeks for a big trip and then do a couple long weekends. But not this year....too much work and hard to take off.

Long weekends at the beach is a vacation. We don't even do that. |
We usually have to go visit my parents for a few days but I don't really consider "vacation." Sometimes we'll piggyback on that trip and take vacation immediately after, or sometimes we'll go seperately. A couple years ago we did two legit vacations- one to the Caribbean as we had friends who moved there, and then a second week in a cabin in the Adirondacks. Honestly we all felt kind of wiped after that, particularly since there was decent travel involved to both, and vowed not to do two big trips like that again in one summer. Plus my PTO really took a hit. |
We used to do 2-3 but now kids have their own lives at home and want to be here for camps, fun stuff with friends, etc. Also travel just became such a miserable experience after Covid. We now do 1 one-week trip and usually one weekend trip along with one-off day trips. We’re going back to Bar Harbor and Acadia this year for a week, down to Georgia for a wedding in August, and maybe a weekend trip or two in there somewhere. |
We are doing an 8 day vacation with my extended family mem day week. Beach week Juneteenth week with dh family. Two younger dcs and I are doing a 4 day weekend at my moms lake house after day camps are over and before school starts. Dh and older are doing a 10 day camper van trip for her 13th bday. He gets more vacation than I do. But I will only be taking 10 days of PTO altogether since I am coupling the longer trips with holiday weeks. |
