ISL coaches

But I would pick Potomac, SR, or SJC based on coaching alone if forced. SSSAS would be top of the list because KJ is an all time great coach, but who knows how much longer she will coach.

I like the Visi coach but I also wonder how long he will be there.

I promise you - going to SR for the coach is a mistake! Great kids, great school, great lacrosse - psycho coach.

This is the type of feedback I was looking for, what do you mean by psycho? What type of player does well with that coach?

Don’t play sports, esp in a competitive program if your kid can’t handle intensity. Competition is not for everyone but some athletes thrive on it. Too many parents blame coaches for bring too hard when it’s the player that needs to meet the standards of a high level program.

IYKYN. This is not the right forum to learn this information. Go to games, and talk to current SR families. Also do not choose a high school on lax, it is a plus if the school is the right fit.

I have a different take. The SR coach can be fantastic. For some she will really make an effort on recruiting and goes the extra mile to get kids into the best colleges. If your daughter is talented, a hard worker, and respectful, it could be a great choice.

Truth is every ISL coach has pluses and minuses, fans and detractors. How a coach treats their players and a parent take on it is rarely related to lacrosse skill although some posters will swear all the negative posts are made by parents of girls who don’t play. That’s just not true though. Fact is coaches are people too and like some girls but not others, lacrosse skill notwithstanding. It’s how they treat the players they may not particularly like that tells you the most.

The better the lax program, usually the more “intense” the coach. Notice the schools with the most competitive programs get the most chatter on here about their coach(es).

There are great coaches at schools that don’t have competitive programs -Maret being top of that list, also Sidwell. Of course those are two of the toughest schools to get into and GLAX isn’t an hook with their admissions.

Sadly poor coaching behavior is sometimes excused in exchange for a successful program. And the coaches themselves often dismiss such complaints as sour grapes by players who aren’t the best on the team (when in reality the best players are subject to it as well) rather than reflecting on their own behavior. Successful coaches need not have toxic environments.

Yes, she will help you for a week during recruiting. She will also miss most practices, blame the kids when she doesn't put in any effort, and take things personally when a kid lashes a mistake.

If you disagree, explain how she picked someone other than the UNC commit for her MVP at the school athletics banquet.

Parent of a middle school player and this season I noticed lots of yelling about what they are doing wrong and no positive feedback.

Players should all be so fortunate as to have a coach with the talent and temperament of the coach at Maret. I’d have my DD look there if we could do it all over again.

I thought that SSSAS was the only school that aired their family dirty laundry on this site. I guess SR too.

Wow! That is crazy. I had always heard that she was intense but I always thought it was sour grapes from players who were not getting playing time. But not making the UNC commit the MVP seems very vindictive. She seems like a great girl and I can't help but wonder why. I have no affiliation with the school at all just seems strange.

+1. My DD doesn’t go there but she’s worked with the Maret coach in the past. She is really great and the school is very good academically.

It kind of feels like this is the same person responding and talking to themselves. Did you watch this team this season? Not a knock on anybody but they really grew as the season progressed, maybe to the detriment of your daughter, but lots of praise to share and I do t think anybody’s feelings are hurt.
