American men should never wear sandals

Anonymous
Sandals are the male version of capri pants and long shorts.

I’ve never even noticed a man’s foot. This thread is weird.

No he did not! Major ick!

If the DH is super hot already and has good feet, I can see this as having a cool vibe. But this could look terrible real easily on an overweight and creepy looking foot guy.

DH is 6'4", with a great body, abs/defined muscles. nice facial features and great style. We do pedicures every other week on date night, feel are always "presentable".

I honestly can’t think of a worse way to spend “date night.”

Nothing.

Men should never wear sandals. It looks gross.

Even in Greece, it just looks weird and try-hard for westerners to wear them even in the Mediterranean area.

Now if you are living in a tropical area, that necessitates sandals to keep your feet from rotting off due to the humidity and fungus, sure, that's necessary. Otherwise no.

Dudes have gnarly feet and nobody wants to see them.

To be fair and non-sexist, ssme women have gnarly paws also, and they shouldn't wear sandals or anything like that either.

Oh lord don't even get me started on those things.
Reminds me of that old "Dorf" comedian skit, or of the grandpa Cotton on "King of the Hill" when see dorky guys wearing those.

I'm a man, though European and, not sure, as sandals are generally worn with shorts, are you saying we should wear shoes that even with shorts, maybe with socks too, and that we simply should take care of our toenails at least, which I'm all for, to return the effort, higher on average of women to look good, though I'm not one of those asking the women to be all heeled and dolled up.
And the male version of capri pants I thought would be capri pants or maybe cargo baggy shorts

ok I screwed up the phrasing, "should be wearing shoes even with shorts" "or that we should at least take care of our feet and toenails if we do" .
I agree it's hard though to find decent sandals, i.e. personally speaking not flip flops, not throwing those under the bus, many women wear those too, but they are clearly more casual and less smart casual.

It has nothing to do with how feet look. I've been all over the middle east, Africa, India, and Asia. Dudes there can get away with sandals. The weather is hot as heck. It's just part of their cultures.

Western men just look nerdy as hell with sandals. Basically the absent minded math professor.

Seems like it has to do with the overly slack attitude in wearing them, rather than the sandals in themselves, in those places often the robes have an interesting fit. If the t-shirts, button downs, or even some more alt clothes, shorts or well fitting pants are paired to look intentional it imho can look quite good or interesting, like you are not afraid.
If some women uphold the status quo too much we risk continuing the costume for which it's also only up to women to show legs or arms.

This is dumb. We are now policing men's footwear? My spouse wears Olukai flip flops on the weekends in spring/summer (it is hot where we live). I have never given it a second thought.

It is a small part of dater night, quick relaxing late afternoon and then spend the evening/night on actual "date".

I was all prepared to be offended by this post but the pictures in the article were truly hideous haha.

Hideous is a strong word but yeah I don't like tevas or huaraches much. The classic brown ones are imho decent, I prefer leather with buckles with a bit of height, it's mainly for pairing with shorts for men (:.
