Generally true, but not always true for certain age groups on teams like Chesterbrook and Tuckahoe (and maybe OKM and Crosspointe). Some age groups are stacked and very competitive.

For the 12&u set who will have the conflict, go to time trials, especially when the team is stacked and very competitive. Skip the LC meet. It will be ok.

when your swimmer gets a little older, they'll realize summer swim doesn't matter

I think this I true. Seniors will be gone for a week with friends and not care. If they are serious swimmers they will often skip divisionals or all stars for the important meets.

Last year we had HS swimmers skip divisionals because they had another meet during all stars and they wanted teammates to have a chance.

This has been my experience both as an observer and as the parent of a now older swimmer. My kid loves summer swim, don’t get me wrong, but the meets themselves, high point awards, etc. are not really important to them and their summer certainly doesn’t revolve around it. They prioritize their club schedule over their summer swim meets.

This has been my experience both as an observer and as the parent of a now older swimmer. My kid loves summer swim, don’t get me wrong, but the meets themselves, high point awards, etc. are not really important to them and their summer certainly doesn’t revolve around it. They prioritize their club schedule over their summer swim meets.

Ipso facto why it would make sense for FISH to hold 13O session during Saturday morning (6/7) and 12U session in the afternoon. Summer swim time trials just isn’t that big of a deal when swimmers are 13+, so skipping time trials for a LC meet is an easy choice.

My year-round swimmer is on the younger side and _loves_ their summer swim team. DC works extremely hard all winter to be able to raise their game for summer swim. Are they supposed to hold back or skip meets so that other kids who prioritized other, different winter activities can "get pool time"? Our team fortunately is supportive of all swimmers across the board, no.matter how serious or casual they are, and everyone cheers for all the kids. No one gets extra events at B meets, and our coach actually puts kids into A meets who might not be in the highest spot on the ladder, to give them a chance when the team doesn't need points from them. I'm not sure how much more inclusive the team can get. And yes, DC practices with their club _and_ with the summer team.
