Legal immigrant detained, then they retroactively revoke his visa

When I was in middle school, there was a major international incident when an American teenager graffitied cars and signs in Singapore and was sentenced to caning. This was the top story for days. Our diplomats negotiated. It sparked a national conversation in America. Sure graffiti isn’t great, we all thought, but what kind of government reacts this way?!

In Trump 1.0, an American student stole a poster in North Korea. Yes, a dumb thing to do. But North Korea put him on trial, found him guilty, sentenced him to 15 years in prison with hard labor, then beat him senseless until he was in a coma and just barely alive before they allowed the US to come and get him. On the bright side, I guess, his parents were with him and he was on US soil when he died. Tough on crime!

The point is: this is not how we do things. Married to a US citizen with an active visa? I do not give a fk about graffiti, and neither should you. Yes, graffiti is dumb. But it’s not enough to revoke a visa. You are losing the plot here. I promise you do not want to turn into North Korea.

If you are going to come to this country on a visa, you damn well better do your best to follow our laws.
I care about graffiti. It is costly. You might not care about it. You probably thought that the destruction during the summer of 2020 was just fine because it was "just property damage."

And, comparing deportation to caning or beating to death is ridiculous.

And you probably thought smashing windows in the Capitol or smearing feces on the walls was worthy of pardons.

And the distance between deportation and caning is getting shorter by the day, my man. After all, today we have masked men who don’t identify themselves walking up and grabbing students off the streets. And we send gay barbers to foreign work camps, and we allow the executive branch to send people off without due process in defiance of the Supreme Court, systematically wrecking the very system we claim to love, and that you no doubt stand for and put your hand over heart for at a baseball game. He takes it inch by inch and you allow it because he has convinced you that everyone else is the enemy. But anyway, do go on about graffiti.

Those pardons came after many had been jailed.

Guest in our country are just that; here at the pleasure of the government. We have enough of our own idiots, no need to allow foreigners to do the same.

Watch out! the arrests say. We are coming for YOU next! That's how dictators behave. They target the most vulnerable people first, then slowly close in, getting closer and closer to you and to me, to anyone who even remotely opposes their regime. This wave of terror has NOTHING to do with antisemitism. That's a cover for this program to instill fear in all of us who are not billionnaire "friends" of the POTUS. It's illegal, but maggots find a way to excuse it. They won't excuse it when the ICE BlackShirts come looking for them, but by then our democracy will be long gone.

at first, they came for the Ford students, but I did not speak up because I was not a foreign student…

If you are a guest in this country the expectation should be zero criminal behavior.

Ship ‘em out

I remember a serious MAGA outcry when there was an American who was almost jailed for having ammo in his luggage. Or is it only required that you obey the law when you are a guest in the US and US citizens can do whatever they want when they travel?

It is not my place to tell foreign governments how to enforce their laws.

I have been able to travel the world and have done so without committing any crimes. The expectation should be the same for foreign visitors/residents in the US.

He’ll be fine going back to Indonesia. Guess his U.S. citizen wife will follow him. They will find many similar people there who agree with them about Gaza. There is no need for them to remain in the U.S., Indonesia is a perfectly habitable place.

Nobody seems to be talking about the RETROACTIVELY REVOKED visa.

My theory: turns out there just aren't enough rapists, murderers, and gangsters in the immigrant population to deport millions, so they have to lower the bar because they can't just tell people it turns out women aren't being raped in their own kitchens every day by pet-eating monsters.

All illegal immigrants are subject to deportation. I’m fine with all of them being deported.

This happened under Obama min 2015. Trump is the one who secured his release and brought him home to die in 2017 after he took office.

You know what, you’ve got me there. The student was detained while Obama was in office. The reason why I connect it to Trump in my mind is that after North Korea beat him into a coma, Trump defended Kim Jong-un and then approved the $2 million “medical bill” North Korea presented for his “care.”

The Optional Practical Training (OPT) is a work authorization program that was created entirely through regulation and not through congress.

Any alien grad irrespective of merit or quality of their program qualifies for the work permit.

Employers are exempt from payroll taxes if they hire aliens on OPT.

It’s strictly a job displacement program where young American graduates are passed over in favor of foreign student graduates.

Your post is irrelevant to this discussion. This is about someone who is here lawfully being torn away from his family. This is fascism.

He can take his family with him.

Yep, this is precisely what’s happened. They told everybody during the campaign that they’d only go after the violent criminals. Of course, that has always been the policy. And it turns out there aren’t that many of those and they are often hard to find. So they immediately turned around and went after all the people who registered themselves with the government, including people who are here legally.

This guy was here legally on a F-1 visa. Try to keep up.

What's interesting is that what ICE is doing -- immigration document fraud, is a deportable offense!

There is also no need, and no legal basis, to deport them.

I for one am sick of all this waste, fraud, and abuse from ICE.
DOGE must terminate these deep state traitors.

That's what I am thinking.

It is just so weird and twisted.

Or the students, whose student visas are revoked, but are not informed, who are then arrested for being "illegal." Is this twisted or incompetent and twisted?

How do the Trumpers justify this behavior?
