Assuming he said he was here illegally, that seems like a rather stupid thing to say. If you do say it, after being pulled over for DUI, you're going to end up in jail for a little while.

He was a passenger in the car when he was arrested in FL and allegedly told the cop he was in the US illegally. It’s pretty obvious the cop lied about that. He had a brown guy who doesn’t speak English and he assumed he must be illegal but had no evidence so he lied.

He appears to have been arrested and charged under an “anti-immigration” law passed in Florida two months ago, despite the fact that the law is currently under a temporary restraining order and isn’t supposed to be enforced.

Having now read both articles, the DUI was a recent previous arrest and the mother did NOT confirm that he made the statement that he was in the U.S.illegally.

Setting aside the racial profiling involved, the worst parts about this IMHO are (1) being arrested under a law that was enjoined, and (2) the ICE 48 hour hold that remained after the charges were dropped.

This is what authoritarian governments do. They break the law but start with less "desirable" people. Idiots say well he deserves it because he had a DUI..as others have pointed out, that is totally irrelevant to his detention by ICE. But the government tries this over and over again until they figure out how to deport people before anyone can stop them. Then suddenly they can send anyone they want to a concentration camp in El Salvador.
