Are you already thinking ahead to 2026-27, or considering independent school for your child for the upcoming school year? Explore Friends Community School, a K-8 Quaker progressive school that thoughtfully guides young children through adolescence. Located on 17 acres in College Park, FCS offers small class sizes, a diverse and inclusive community, a commitment to educating the whole child, and a curriculum that emphasizes inquiry-based and hands-on learning.

Interested in 2025-26 entry? FCS continues to accept applications for the upcoming school year in select grades as space is available. Please contact the Admissions Office directly or submit an Inquiry Form for a status update.

The FCS Admissions Office is ready and willing to answer questions, discuss the school’s program, and share more details regarding the application process. The admissions event schedule and application for 2026-27 will be available by early September on the FCS website. In the meantime, please feel free to be in touch with FCS via phone (301-441-2100) or email.

I would steer clear of this one.

Wow I was looking at it what’s wrong with it?

For the soon to be seniors maybe Good Counsel? Geographically it's the closest, coed, it's a large school and may be able to absorb new students.

Current FCS Family. We're very happy here.

Actually some schools may have classroom space to add classes if there is demand at a like minded school.

On the other hand there are many schools that are hanging on by a thread.

Nice to see this thread. As the parent of a current SSFS junior, the timing is absolutely confounding, but I do believe that when one door closes, another opens, and hopefully that will be the case for us.

Do not recommend. We toured and couldn’t believe people are paying $20K a year for that place. Everything was old and run down. The staff and faculty were delightful but we could not get past how bad it looked.

What about Springwell?

I need a middle school that is inclusive to gender non conforming kids and isn’t too far from SSFS area.

Sigh…

We are another current FCS family and feel very lucky to be there. It’s a wonderful school and community. There’s one person on DCUM who takes every opportunity to trash the school. It’s weird.

Yes I’m sure those six kids would love some new friends.

Sure, that's true; it's a new program. And for the right person, it could be a great fit. Butler Montessori has a wonderful campus and an excellent program. I used to be skeptical, but the more I see the options around us, the more I'm grateful for schools who are trying something different. MCPS HS was truly awful for my kids. They went to Butler several years ago and I would have definitely considered the HS knowing what I know now. In any case, might be worth a look for some of these families. No need to investigate if it's not for you.
