I seriously don't know how this is a question.

Full scholarship sports recruit versus going to a school 50 percent of his classmates are attending

What school sends 50 percent of their students to UT?

impossible.

More like 6 percent. Very difficult to get into UT-Austin in-state if you aren't a class rank auto admit.

Plus, UT has over 50,000 students enrolled. Even if a number of kids from a high school class attend, there are plenty of other people to meet. HP feels a lot more like high school (it’s basically “college lite”) than a serious educational institution like UT.

Which would you choose and why?

Depends on the school, 50 percent of kids who applied at my kid’s school were accepted and about half will go!

What school is this?

Highland Park- the numbers are extremely misleading. Only 6% get in by auto admit but the percentage is MUCH higher by regular admission for instate at many high schools. Ask for the stats from your school if you don’t believe me if you’re in state.

I would say about 100 kids in the graduating class will go to UT, as they do most years. That’s a lot of kids to move on with.

I am pretty familiar with HP. You are saying 200 kids get in every year? I don't think so. Maybe into CAP and the other UT system schools.

And it is not MUCH higher at many high schools. A few yes.

I am saying half of the class applies and half will get in. UT Austin. Stats are extremely misleading. 6 percent is JUST autoadmit, if you’re at a high achieving HS about 50 percent will get accepted. I didn’t believe it either until I saw the reports showing how many applied and how many got in.

If your DC is happy with that comparison, go for it.

I would fear that High Point, especially if you are not choosing it due to political affinity, would be socially and economically limiting. However, it might provide a close community of like-minded people for your son.

He’s not political, what a bizarre comment saying like minded. Get a grip.

If he’s not political, HP might not be a good fit. And if he goes anyway, people *are* going to make certain assumptions about his political views, so you might as well get used to that now.

Later responses that appear to be from OP use “he” so I’m assuming a boy.

Show your work on this? It's just not accurate.

The school captures information about every class with a breakdown of every school applied to by the graduating class and how many got in (ex, 9 applied for Duke, 2 got in, 1 went). It’s all available to parents. It is accurate. I’m sorry you don’t believe it but it’s not 6 percent admitted. A graduating class has 500 kids, you think only 30 were admitted? How do classes have 100 kids going a year? That alone is 20 percent of the class. And not every single student who got admitted is going. Kids have other preferences.

Will have problem with High Point on a resume (rich, entitled, white kids) v UTexas. Don't waste four years at High Point

Please post those reports or link. I am extremely familiar with auto-admit.
