$4,000 for internship (2 weeks, shadowing several high-net-worth individuals and sitting in their meetings)
$600 pickleball tournament entry fee (weeklong tournament, can hang out at court before and after) $1000 driver ed |
| $6K for a class trip. |
“Internship” 😂 Is the drivers Ed in a McLaren? &1,000 is ridiculous |
Where are they being recruited? |

7500 for an 8 week camp ad a CIT, it is kid's childhood camp.
1300 for one week skateboarding camp for other kid. All planned last year, paying for them both over time. This is likely the last summer for these types of experiences for both. |
|
Nothing. Kid has had a summer job since age 14.
Will be lifeguarding this summer. Saving up for college textbooks and money for expenses at school. |
Our spending is also just beach week with ours working as well. We have a beach house and my kids go there, which is our normal household spending. So it’s not that they do nothing - just nothing we pay extra for. |

Haven’t paid for any yet. So these are tentative. 17 yo will have a job (so she will cost me less as she covers more of her own expenses) and maybe a summer math class so whatever that costs through CC.
14yo - dance intensive $300. Maybe Cheer camp for $300 but only if it’s overnight, if the team chooses day only she’s going to skip it since she decided she’s probably only doing dance next year. Both girls will probably take a dance class together that’s maybe $200/mo |
Yep and making hiring decisions on new grads I’m going to pick the one that’s been working since 16 every day of the week. |
You pay $7500 for your kid to work? Those childhood camps bring in the dough. Slave labor |
I do the same. Never hire the kids who went to big camps and summer internships. Never once had a paycheck. No work ethic |
My kid went to a great summer camp until he aged out. He's had regular summer jobs ever since. Plenty of other kids are just like him. |
If he’s had summer jobs then he wouldn’t be what we are talking about. Because his experiences as a young kid up to age 16 wouldn’t be on his resume. But kids who go to summer college programs and unpaid internships do put those on there, and any kid who can afford to have their parents support them instead of working like everyone else does usually has a deficit of common sense at best and a terrible sense of entitlement at worst. |

$150 for summer swim team x2 kids.
$350 for the high school sports team summer league. They’ll also be continuing a year round sport for part of the summer that we pay for by the year. Oh, and Driver’s Ed + family trips. In the past we’ve paid $2-4k for a 2 week camp but they are happy just continuing their sports and working this summer. They’ll make $$$ at summer jobs. |
| Zero this year. Teenager is getting a job to help contribute because we don't know if our jobs are stable. |
