| We don’t do the pricey rich kid camps. And we have a high HHI. They volunteer at GS camp (that they used to attend) and babysit/dog walk. Plus maybe $1000 on local specialty camps if they want. Older DD is going into her second summer of a real PT job. Plus family vacation. |
| Hanging at pool, doing drivers Ed, pretending to study for sat so I don’t bug them. |
| I was willing to pay for an SAT class. After that, they worked and had sports practice. I guess I paid for gas. |
|
Around $2000 for our 14 yo. That includes a sleep away sports camp and for a few days and a bunch of clinics.
I’ve spent nothing so far for my $17 but there will likely be some college visits so I don’t know if you are counting gas and hotels for those. He will be working the rest of the summer. |
| 27K for three months training at IMG academy. |
Same. |
| I’ve seen enough to know that between the kids with jobs and the kids who attend pricey camps all summer, I’d rather my kids be like the ones with jobs. Most of the overindulged kids we know are insufferable and I’m not going to raise a kid like that. |
| I have three teenagers and all of them are working this summer as lifeguards or day camp counselors. |
|
Once DD is old enough for CIT or solo volunteering, she gets to
do that, then work in the summer after that. DD is 13 now and we are one of PPs who do some camps now. Goal is keeping her off screens and pursuing some of her interests. We could afford to continue on the path of 4K or so per summer for camps etc but prefer our child get some real-world experience. |
| We're going to give them money for a trip (going to Europe to see family so starting from there). Last summer before college. They might also work part of the summer, we'll see. Before this summer they worked. |
+100 |
| $7,500 for 4 weeks (2 residential) of a college engineering program. It’s going to be a lot of work for ds. Just not the kind that earns money. |
|
700 for 2 weeks of art camp for 14 yo.
She will also be volunteering a lot. 600 for swim team fees for 2 kids. 17 year old will be working PT, 1 PT job to make money, other PT job will be fun and not make much money. Maybe we’ll take a little trip, but it’s been hard to plan anything because job uncertainty and RTO. But things aren’t looking bad for me so we will probably do an inexpensive trip. |

Working part time at an ice cream shop
SAT prep class Drivers ed online course 1 vacation A ton of much needed free time and thankfully we aren’t friends with the camp and internship families so he has a ton of friends to see. |
| $15K for 8 week backpacking trip |
