It is the norm in the US for cleaners to wear their street shoes inside when cleaning houses.
Wearing socks or shoe covers is not safe in the workplace. |

She is not your cleaner. She is an independent contractor and you are not her employer.
Clean your own house. |

thing I find that is stOOOOpid about this is as follows.
I go in and out when cleaning my own house. I dont have servants like you. I take out trash, empty vacum canister etc. And a real maid is runnng out to car to get supplies,. My richer neighbor has a maid and she also puts out trash cans. You want them to keep taking on and off shoes? I had an idiot who had these rule I did work with once in college. I took off my shoes, then barefoot in her house, running in and out of house with dirty feet. Lucklly I wiped them off on her white carpet before I left. |
I don't think that's true. We tell the cleaning lady when to come, we provide the cleaning materials, and ask her to clean specific areas and do specific chores. |
NP - Yes, most people in shoe-free houses take shoes off/on to go outside for a chore and then come back in, it’s really not that hard. |
I am going to freak you out. Stop reading now. Trigger warning. Sometimes, when I just need to walk to the garage or trashcan, I go barefoot outside. |
Did you issue a W-2? |
| My cleaners said it’s a liability in case they slip etc on wet flooring so they insist on wearing shoes. I love the shoe cover idea and will try that |
Don’t care what you do in your house. |
Yuck for the cleaner. Hopefully that’s what was meant. Ten years with the same cleaner and I have no idea if she wears her shoes when cleaning. We take our shoes off when we come in but I don’t ask guests to remove their shoes. Except my filthy animal relatives. |
| Why all the hate towards OP? We take our outdoor shoes off when entering our apartment. I tell my kids to do that. Why would you want to bring outside dirt into your clean home? Many people do this, at least people I know. |
And many find this practice to be obsessive. But the real issue is a cleaning person is doing manual labor all day. Having proper footwear is essential to minimize pain and injury. The cleaning person’s time is valuable. Asking them to buy indoor shoes is ridiculous. |

I have a neighbor who had a no shoe in house policy. One of her guests fell and broke her arm and rotator cuff because floor was slippery. Guest sued and she no longer has a no shoe policy
|
you can slop in fall in shoes though |
| We switch from indoor shoes to take out trash, pick flowers, get paper, etc. |
