People here are obsessed w UVA and William and Mary to an absurd extent.

Also Williams, Amherst, and Hamilton get too much love here IMO.

No love for Denison? I seem to remember threads where people rain down hugs and kisses on this school. Am I misremembering?

Love them: went there or kid got in there
Hate hate them: they or kid were rejected

Of course people are obsessed. UVA and W&M are very tough admits, and kids who get in are often UMC donut hole kids getting $90k private college educations at half the price. If you could save $200k in tuition, you’d obsess about ways to do it too.

Nah that’s not it. We happily pay 87k for ivy but recognize that W&Mary and UVA are excellent schools

Okay. Now imagine a world where your kid doesn’t get into Yale, Dartmouth or Brown. Shocking, but some kids don’t get in. W&M price tag vs a high caliber LAC? UVA vs Emory? Assuming no need based aid and $90k a hard or impossible lift without significant loans?

The SLAC people seem to like Denison. The university people seem to like Yale, which suggests there aren't a lot of STEM parents posting.

NYU is my idea of Hell, & I’m surprised so many people like it.

For publics, UVA, UMD, VTech for instate tuitions.

For privatesj, NYU, Northeastern, BostonU.
They get the most applications from DMV area.

+1
There is a reason almost all of NOVA applies to at least one of these two if not both.

Re: STEM - they are here too. Never heard of Harvey Mudd before this page (I’m from PA originally and was liberal arts focused when I was applying to colleges). The VT love here is mainly about the STEM there and I think a lot of the UMD love is STEM related too.
