www.rallytorestoresanity.com and www.keepfearalive.com. i would expect that the two will occur close to each other or really be the same rally. the websites are linked to each other. competition breeds greater numbers.
i am definitely going. i happened to be downtown during the glenn beck rally. frightening. |
| All I can say is what took them so effing long??!! Ugh, we had to sit through that September 12 crap last year too. So glad they're doing something this year though! |
| It is starting to be frightening to me that so many are taking this seriously, as if this sends some big message. These events are entertainment, like a comedy show. You all know that, right??? |
It's also an f/u to all the right wing nutbags. |
Entertaining as it is, it does send a message: we're not all in support of extremists. |
How do you know we are taking it seriously? It could just be extremely dry wit. |
You could - and in an ideal world *should* - be able to apply all that you said to Glenn Beck. And yet, frighteningly, lots of people take him seriously. |
Actually I do think the same of Glen Beck. I'm just sick of politicians AND entertainers thinking they know what we the people want. |
Exactly. |

Glen Beck takes himself seriously. The difference is Jon Stewart knows he's an entertainer on a comedy show, and says so frequently.
Even so, he's often got a better handle on the issues of the day and certainly askes much better questions of people on his show than many in teh so-called legitimate news media. |
| It's my daughter's birthday but I'm most definitely going! |

I liked Jon Stewart's rally and the idea behind it initially. But in watching the clip, not so much. In my mind, the insanity comes from the tea party crowd, the right wing nutjobs who've questioned obama's religion and citizenship. But Jon Stewart is leading the 20somethings and other who follow him to become more cynical, more disengaged. Stewart indicts the left and the right -- just anyone with an opinion, really. I don't have a problem with protest. I guess I have a problem with the hate and the ugly rhetoric of the left. I think Stewart should show more conviction and strength by identifying the real problem -- the Glenn Becks, the birthers, the tea party idiots, but in the end, all Stewart gives us is a bunch of snarky crap about politics being a waste, really. Kind of disappointing.

| Oops I meant ugly rhetoric of the right. |
Oh Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert know what I want, all right! |
|
They did a poll a few years back on the Daily Show viewers. It was not just 20 somethings. Everyone I know that watches it is in their forties. Also, their viewers are educated and knowledgeable on politics. In order to get the satire of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, the viewer needs a base knowledge of politics, current events and how our government is set up. That may be taken for granted here in DC, but where I'm from, many, if not most, adults are lacking in all three areas.
Jon Stewart does not just attack the right. Both right and left are fair game. Watch his interview with Cramer (the yelling stock guy). He asked questions that were thought out and I didn't see the same on any other news show. |
