Jon Stewart's 10-30-10 March to Restore Sanity

Do those of you who plan on attending consider this a political rally? Jon Stewart??? Seriously. Don't get me wrong. I love his show. Colbert even more. But, really?

i think it's more of a spoof on the prior rally a few weeks ago, but at the same time, a message to the world that we are not all right wing nuts!

Both of these "rallies" have the potential to be really fun and hilarious. I might go!

I actually think that what Jon Stewart does is pretty important. People actually listen to him, and though he puts out a message using comedy, its still a message. It may be the best way to reach a lot of people to lazy/disinterested to listen to the real news.

Yes, a significant percentage of the 18-29 crowd say that they get their news from the Daily Show. I actually find the analysis to be pretty solid on a lot of topics, so I don't see this as a bad thing or a "dumbing down" of the population.

Not sure if I would qualify this as a political rally, except in the sense that it's anti-extremism. I will be very interested to see what kind of event it turns out to be.

I loved the bit last night about "We're here! ...but only til about six, because we have sitters..."

Agree with PP. Jon Stewart does better interviews than almost anyone other "news reader." Betsy Twigg

Given that all the tickets to his DC shows were snapped up in a few minutes, this will give a lot of us latecomers a chance to enjoy his visit to DC!

I'm 31 and definitely get all my news from the Daily Show. . .mostly because it's the only time of day I get to watch TV and it's the best thing on

The thing is, if you don't already follow the news to some extent, then it's not as funny. So no, it doesn't dumb down the news.

What time is this rally expected to start? It's a march plus rally, or only rally? On the Mall or at the Capitol? Having trouble here getting the details but I really want to help keep fear alive that day.

I assume that there won't actually be two separate rallies, I imagine Stewart and Colbert will be sharing the stage, speaking at different times and doing some of their staged back-and-forth verbal jousting. It should be entertaining, and yes, hopefully a message to the world that not everyone thinks Obama is a secret muslim anti-colonialist Kenyan sleeper agent. I'll be 40 wks pregnant at that point so will probably pass but otherwise I would totally be there, holding my "I may disagree with you but I'm pretty sure you are not Hitler" sign.

Oh, we'll be there!!! And we're bringing DD, too. I'm already thinking of the sign and costume possibilities . . . .

I'm guessing my baby will be around a month old then (waiting for her now!). Never too early for her to be part of the Million Moderate March, right?
