+1 My kids are younger but any "wow" I've ever dished out about a DCPS or DCPCS has been in relation to "you must have had great lottery luck" not "what a budding genius you have on your hands." I'm happy for the parent but not in awe of the kid. And it's beyond weird that parents on this thread are acting like saying their kid is at Walls is the equivalent of dropping the "H bomb" into conversation. Delusional-level weird. |
Why go through the application process and take someone else’s spot if you have no intention to go there? Did he want bragging rights? If it’s not a good school why does he care if he can get in? I really don’t like this way of thinking about applications. It’s kind of gross. |
Could you please decline the enrollment so my kid, who really does want to go there, could move up the waitlist? Awesome, thanks so much! |
+1. My son applied to Walls and got in, but at no point did he think it's a "wow" school. No public school in DC is a "wow" school. He applied just to see if he could get in, but will probably turn it down to stay where he is. Why go through the application process and take someone else’s spot if you have no intention to go there? Did he want bragging rights? If it’s not a good school why does he care if he can get in? I really don’t like this way of thinking about applications. It’s kind of gross. Agree. What a weird thing to do. Is this common to apply "just to see if he could get in"? Yuck |
Second this. Good friends kid is low teens, let's get this waitlist moving. Call them today. |
What MS? |
walls being the best DC HS is like the being the fastest runner at a Jenny Craig meeting. Yah its better than being the slowest but everyone outside the meeting rolls their eyes at all of you. The only schools worth at pat on the back is the better privates and even then the pat on the back goes to the parents. Or grand parents in many cases |
Because going through the application process is a great way for a kid to learn whether he wants to stay or go. If he is accepted and turns it down, then another kid can still get in off the waitlist. |
You stated earlier he applied just to see if he would get in. That is just for bragging rights then, not for going through the process. |
I love this post. If I hear one more time about how superior it is and how everyone there is a genius..... |
College results are pretty incredible though! (my kid is not there, just looked at their insta) |
Done. |

Will do. |
