It's not appeasement. They aren't doing this in the hopes it makes Trump happy and he is nicer. They are doing it to keep people in place, force Trump to actually fire them, and keep courts running to challenge it.

Also, they aren't actually voting for the CR. Republicans have the majority. Dems are voting for cloture which will allow Republicans to pass the CR on a straight majority vote instead of having to get 60 votes. Fetterman might actually vote for the CR because he's dumb, but no Dem need do that. This is a GOP decision, they are the majority party.

Look, there are argument both for and against a shutdown. I think both options suck. But it is not "spineless" to decide that a shutdown is potentially more dangerous than the CR. People are voting their conscience.

Dems need to be kinder to each other. This is a strategic disagreement, not a principled one. We all want the same thing. No one is signing into Trump's agenda here.
