Making excuses for church sex abuse and a church's inadequate response to it, and downplaying the damage it has caused, is a well known tactic called "circling the wagons." This posture is about preserving the institution vs helping victims or preventing future abuse. As you can see from the "nuanced" website, the church had ample opportunities over the years to properly address the abuse and to reach out to victims, and it failed again and again, despite victims coming forward (and no, appropriately responding to abuse wasn't so different in 2015 vs. today). The church investigation only began in Fall 2023, around 18 months ago. Tell me why they couldn't have begun sooner? The fact that the church is embroiled in this current abuse investigation involving multiple child victims speaks volumes about their priorities over their years, and their culture of sweeping it under the rug. |
St Mark Orthodox Church on River Rd is exactly what you described, OP.

I see, They didn't hide I because they didn't have to hide it. they were just following "reporting requirements." Doesn't sound like a church I'd want to belong to. |
I found some humor/irony in commentators talking about "bigoted" churches aligning with African Churches. Wouldn't that be embracing diversity ![]() |
Do you think the PPs know which denomination that is? |
