Why can't your dog poop on your own lawn?

Anonymous
It’s revolting. My little kids have to walk across our lawn to get to our driveway (no garage.) I came home to find a neighbor letting his meticulously groomed dog drop a huge load right in the middle of our path. He stared me straight in the eyes. He should be mortified. He cleaned up the main poop but it left a foot-wide brown smear in the snow.

I have never noticed our lawn damaged by dog poop or pee, across multiple dogs. I know there are people who have this problem but honestly I think it's their weak grass. Plant something more robust.

For me, the damage is when the dog ambles into my yard and the leash gets dragged around. Have had multiple saplings snapped and small bushes and shrubs yanked out of the ground that way. Those owners DGAF so perimeter and pepper all the way now

That's terrible. I'm one of the PPs with a dog and I don't want other dogs in my actual yard either. I thought we were all talking about the grass at the curb.

Unleashed/uncontrolled dogs are a menace.

Some humans are the same in that they have to go after running or working out. How would you like it if someone told you to go in a particular place at a particular time?

I know where I am going to drop a dump when I go for a walk...

A few years ago there was a-hole who let his dog poop in front of my door and would just leave it there. I have a Ring camera so I recorded it and put in on the local facebook group. I shamed the hell out of him and the pooping stopped. But the peeing has not. I have a sign asking people to not let their dogs pee in front of my house. My grass is dead from having 20 dogs pee in the same spot every day. My HOA requires me to keep the area looking nice and I have to pay to replace the sod. I asked AGAIN for people to please respect my property and have their dogs pee somewhere else. A couple of morons got very aggressive and said they would bring their dogs to my house specifically to piss me off.

I like dogs. I think they are wonderful. I absolutely can't stand most of the dog owners.

You need a fence and some sort of dog deterrent. The problem is that now part of your property has become a marked pee area for dogs. Every dog coming by will want to add their own pee. That's how they communicate.

It is terrible.

Do you think situation will improve if video or photo of their dog doing so on lawn is posted to neighborhood social media or listserv?

My dogs need a long walk before they poop. I never let my dogs urinate or poop on people’s lawns, never. They poop or pee only on public land or strips which I always clean up. One morning while walking through my west haven neighborhood I saw a woman letting her dog poop in a neighbors ground cover. I asked her to pick it up and she told me it was natural for the dog to poop wherever just like deer and other animals. She did not pick the poop up. This Bethesda in a nutshell

Thank you for being a responsible dog owner. That woman is absolutely vile.

I’m the PP who posted earlier that I did that. It absolutely did help and stopped the one neighbor from allowing his dog from shitting in front of my door and leaving it there. A few jerks protested, called me names, bla bla bla, but ultimately no one wants to be publicaly blasted for being a jerk.

Sounds like you need to start using some type of poison in your yard. Hard to find something that would only affect dogs and cats and not native wildlife or your kids though.

While the area between the street and sidewalk is the city or county's, the homeowner who's house it is in front of typically mows they strip of grass. Maybe homeowners should just stop mowing it letting the city take care of that portion poop pee and all

What’s keeping people from having a minimum of common sense and respect for their neighbors?
My front yard flower bed is now sprayed with a repellent and has a clear message “Private Property. No trespassing”

Some people are not cleaning up the dog poo. Then it becomes my job to shovel it. Worse yet, it attracts other dogs and dog walkers to leave a poop and pee.

Sadly, no. The sort of person who would let their dog dump on your property (or even be on your property in the first place) isn't going to respond well to being called out on their behavior. They will immediately claim victim status, whine about how you're victimizing them, and then continue on with their entitled nonsense.

A lot of these people are petty, and looking for a low-level fight they think they can win. Some people weren't raised right.

Feces doesn't kill grass. It's quite literally a fertilizer.
