Wake me up from this nightmare

Yep. And they wouldn’t have the stated plan of replacing career people with loyalists.

Everyone keeps saying this on here. Yes there are some quotes with officials/politicians saying they want to inflict pain. But the main point is to reduce the size of the government and save money.

There are ways to save money rather than firing Americans who serve other Americans. This isn’t private sector where the where to measure success is profit margins and bottom lines.

Yes, it’s 100% unneeded. A scalpel is needed not a chainsaw.

Well, to this point I doubt most feds would even admit a scalpel was needed. That’s what’s been done to this point and it’s evidently not working.

I keep hoping too I’ll wake up from this nightmare. A complete destruction of our standing in the world and our economy and zero respect for the constitution. They’re messing with the systems that hold our country together. I can feel the buzzing/unrest in the air.

We all lost this election. Some people just don’t know it yet.

Ok good luck to you.

Salaries and benefits of all federal workers total 5% of the total federal budget.

People keep writing this as if it’s clever. It’s not just the workforce. It’s all the programs and spending associated with them that they’ll also determine is unneeded. To focus solely on employee cost in all this is disingenuous. If you are going to disagree, at least get correct what they plan to eliminate.

Please. Spending on federal employee compensation is lower than it was 15 years ago. The number of employees is lower than during the Reagan administration, even though the country has 100 million more people in it. So spare us your complaints about too many federal workers.

You stated my thoughts exactly. I feel like I'm screaming underwater and no one can hear me. My parents don't seem to know or care. My MIL is the same; actually, she is worse. She had the utter lack of empathy and temerity to tell my USAID husband that she knows there's corruption and waste at USAID. Unfortunately for her, we are now unable to help move her out here as my husband had planned.

They are doing it recklessly and with no plan. It is one thing to say they are doing a critical review of all government spending and over time will phase out functions deemed wasteful or unnecessary. That is not what they’re doing.

OP I am so sorry. DH is a fed, I'm state, and we are both freaking out as well, although I think my job is maybe okay? Hard to know what will happen. I'm also freaked out on a bigger scale, like what will happen to democracy and American excellence in education, research, innovation not to mention national security--truly frightening. . Its truly the most corrupt and stupid people running things. We have both been very depressed.

The sad thing is that this not only disrupts so many workers, but the downstream effects on everything from cancer research to affordable housing to farmers is huge, and it will end up saving an infinitesimal amount of money compared to the giant tax cuts for those making over 400k that will cost us trillions. When asked how to pay for it all, Trump said we would have money rolling in from tariffs. I truly think he still believes that other countries pay us tariffs, like some kind of grift or tax.

Buckle up folks, we are about to head into the most corrupt and inept adminstration in history. The criminals are running the show and its one big freaking grift. And Trump is making executive orders banning paper straws and planning to make the Gaza strip Mar a Lago East and I just cant believe the level of stupidity and greed.

Then cut the programs through the legally-allowed process: the budget. It makes no sense to indiscriminately drive people away from federal employment regardless of whether or not they have critical skills in areas Congress wants to fund.

BTDT, OP. It was brutal for a while. You will get through it.

OP I wish I could tell you the best words of comfort. Just know that we are all with you. All of us are being affected and we are in this boat together. It is awful. It is cruel. It is unnecessary. It is heartless. It is crazy.

I wish I could reach out to you and give you a hug. Somehow we will be ok. We have to believe that. Just do your best to stay in the present moment. Don’t think too far ahead. Take sleep medicine. Exercise to stay sane. Turn off the news and don’t doom scroll. I promise it will be alright. Somehow it will.

Praying for you OP, and everyone of us.

People keep saying it because people like you are so underinformed that we have to go back to basics for you to het a clue.

The spending on the programs is mandated by Congress via appropriations. Eliminating the federal work force saves zero of that. ZERO. Do you really think that laying off people eliminates the programs they were implementing?

If you’re going to disagree, at least get some idea of the rubbish you’re spouting.
