Wake me up from this nightmare

Anonymous
I’m sorry. I’m not a fed but my family members are and my dad is retired. I was a govt contractor for SAHMSA years ago before leaving the workforce to care for my kids. Nobody could have ever imagined this scenario. What is happening is appalling and really cruel. I hope that you and your husband are spared or at minimum one of you will stay employed. You are definitely not alone. I wish I had some advice but just wanted to say there are lots of people who care about you. Sending you a huge virtual hug!

Everyone keeps saying this on here. Yes there are some quotes with officials/politicians saying they want to inflict pain. But the main point is to reduce the size of the government and save money.

The WH is simply ignoring the judge’s ruling.

I hear you OP. I’m a single parent and federal employee. I actually really like my job and feel good about our mission (cancer research). It’s just so unbelievable to me that he’s going to just slash and burn the federal government. I have no idea what I’m going to do but obviously we will get by. There’s no other option.

No it’s not. Stop lying. Russell Vought said the main objective was to traumatize federal workers.

If that was their point they wouldn’t just be cutting without any forethought. They would be working within the rules and law. The way they are doing this is going to crash the economy

We are in the same boat. Two fed household. This is indeed a nightmare. I'm just hoping that rule of law will prevail.

This won't save any money.

OP, I am so so sorry that you have to deal with this stress. We all manage stress differently, for me it helps me if I am pro active e.g I may start looking a secure a job online, even if it’s a small one. I think the probability of both of you getting laid off is rather low but if controlling the situation makes you feel better then plan, strategize and control.

In the end, this too shall pass. Warm hugs and lots of best wishes to you and your family.

This is the worst timeline.

There are ways to save money rather than firing Americans who serve other Americans. This isn’t private sector where the where to measure success is profit margins and bottom lines.

Yes, it’s 100% unneeded. A scalpel is needed not a chainsaw.

No it’s not. The federal workforce a sliver of the budget. If they wanted to save money, they wouldn’t be proposing a massive tax cut. You know that.

Yeah, nope. That's not what this is about at all. Because if that's what it was about they would have started with DoD, which accounts for half of the USG budget. As it stands, DoD has not been touched.

Salaries and benefits of all federal workers total 5% of the total federal budget.
