Do MAGA not realize that cancelling DEI will greatly affect women’s careers?

Have more babies if you are White. That's what they want to keep America White.

Which I think is part of the anger of MAGA, actually. It used to be that white men got certain jobs, especially in leadership, because they were assumed to be more reliable, intelligent, and rational than women. The women's liberation movement fought for decades to change that perception and we've finally reached a point where women have something resembling parity in many industry (not all, but many) and where hiring and promotions don't automatically bias white men. This has necessarily meant a tougher employment experience for white men, who are less likely than their fathers and grandfathers to get jobs and promotions. They have to compete against a much wider range of people -- women and minorities. And even worse, organizations (via DEI programs) sometimes preference people with those identities specifically because they want to develop more representation of those historically marginalized groups.

And that's the whole thing. MAGA Joe's dad got made supervisor and then manager and got regular raises because he was a white man in the 70s and 80s and employers had no interest in giving those roles to women or minority candidates. More than that, employers often viewed it as important to give white men with families better jobs or more pay in order to help that man support his family.

But now MAGA Joe is in his 40s or 50s and he has to actually compete to get ahead and there's no bonus for being a white guy, everyone assumes his wife works too so there's no special dispensation for him as a "breadwinner", and he has to listen to people talk about the importance of having women in leadership roles and how the company's management should "reflect society." MAGA Joe wants what his dad had, and he can't have it, so he's trying to roll back the clock to go get it.

I have a DD. She'll need to be flexible in planning her career. Plan for work thst will be attractive to other countries (Some csreers work better than others.) The environment that is best for her may not be her in the U.S.

Depends I know, but that possibility is real

Yeah, I’m definitely sending my DD to a college overseas.

But I’m just shocked that MAGA women don’t realize that they voted against themselves and their daughters.

This is where people mess up. Many women like the trad wife lifestyle and want it for their own daughters. The see it as vote for the 1950s traditional lifestyle. They are willing participants.

A lot of them didn't vote against themselves though - many of my neighbors don't really want to work, they'd much rather stay home and take care of their husbands kids and homes. The 1950's nostalgia is real among those born 1990-. This of course does not apply to women of color who should continue to be our nurses and nannies and work in fast food and retail. [NOTE this is not how I think but we're blind if we don't see this in suburbia every day]

Yes, OP, that's what Republicans and the Heritage Foundation want. And many white women were suckered into voting against themselves.

Wow.

Do you not know hard it was for a woman to get hired into a high paying jobs before DEI?

Do you not know that they only promoted white males?

Do you not know that the academia was primarily white males?

I work in tech and in my company I’m the only woman across all the US teams.

In my circle of friends most women are either SAMs ot work low paying jobs. Very few women I know have highly paid jobs.

You were probably hired because your company had to have a quota of hires that are not just white males.

I know it’s tough. It’s very tough. But we were a dual income household with little kids in DC before telework was prevalent or allowed in DH’a agency and it certainly wasn’t allowed at my job.

I was the breadwinner so it was DH who was impacted more. Now our kids are teens so it’s much easier. Get through these young kids years. It’s temporary.

It is temporary. Which is why this is IMO a rather sad way to think about life.

No, she’s a special snowflake pick me gal, so I’m sure the MAGAs will continue to respect her and treat her like a human being.

Suckered? Without agency?

Its well know that women, particularly white women are the most product workers - generally speaking. As a long time corporate manager, I know this to be true from personal experience. I think killing DEI was targeted towards others.

At my company hiring and promoting urm was a major factor in obtaining promotions and bonuses.

I'd bet every woman on this thread started her career before she ever heard the term DEI.

Well not really because it was the civil right act .., dei is no different

Why didn’t you already have URMs in position?
